Agreed. It does take away from the excitement of the model's launch. Walking into any new car dealership these days, it all looks like a generic orgy. And it gets more difficult to distinguish between models. I feel the rear on this new E-class reminds me just a little too much of the boring rear end on the W211. The W212 was a radical new design which I actually like more than the new model.

Just a side note on the integrated display - It has been rumored that the C Class released in 2014's face-lift model will also have the integrated display, meaning the tablet that looks like it has been stuck onto the dash with prestic will be a thing of the past

Tried speccing the E220d the other day, added features you might come to expect standard, and price was just below a million. I love it, but for R759k you'd think LED lights would come standard on the new E, or maybe the navigation as well (like the UK). Mercedes SA make a killing with optional extras

For a laugh I tried this as well, but with the E200. Problem is, you add something you like, say the distronic for 15k, and you have to add a bunch of extras for another 60k. Choose a certain wheel and you have to add a certain interior. Think mine ended up on 950? and that wasn't really going all out.
But yeah that's an industry thing, not isolated to Merc.

The E400 4Matic will join the range in the fourth-quarter of 2016. The all-wheel drive model uses a 6-cylinder turbopetrol engine that delivers 245 kW and 480 Nm of torque. A plug-in hybrid powered by a 210 kW/550 N.m 4-cylinder turbopetrol and electric motor will be locally available in 2018.
