2017 Mazda 3 (3rd Generation facelift)

What a beautiful car, unfortunately with that 77kw 1.6 mzr it's going nowhere fast no matter how nice the features are inside.

The facelift as you can see it's incredibly minor. If anything it best to buy one now or a month or two when the facelift is in stock. Haggle on price of "older" car.

False, Chev has rolled Android Auto on the 2016 Captiva and Cruz on the showroom floors currently.
Didnt know that! But even then the CX-5 trumps the Captiva in any other category. Handling most importantly for me, so AA is too little to sway my vote.

FYI. Plz reserve judgement on the old pap 77kw 1.6 that carries on.

"Just last month, the facelifted Mazda3 was revealed in Japan. Now the updated C-segment range is available in South Africa, and we have pricing.

The engine line-up remains unchanged, which means SA doesn’t gain the new 1,5-litre turbodiesel engine nor the older 2,2-litre oil-burner. Yes, the 1,6-litre (77 kW/144 N.m) and 2,0-litre (121 kW/210 N.m) naturally aspirated petrol mills soldier on locally.

However, Mazda Southern Africa has added a new derivative to the local range: the 2,0L Astina Plus.

This newcomer is available in both hatch and sedan form and comes fitted with a number of advanced safety features, including adaptive LED headlamps, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, blind spot monitoring and smart city brake support.

Mazda says the latter feature helps prevent or mitigate low-speed impacts. The system monitors the vehicle in front to assess the possibility of a collision at speeds up to 80 km/h. In the event that the system detects a high risk of impact, it issues visual and audible warnings to the driver and primes the brakes for a faster response.

This new Astina Plus range-topper is priced at R407 900, regardless of which body style is selected. At the bottom end of the range, the Mazda3 1,6L Original Manual comes in at R258 900.

For all 2,0-litre models, the facelift brings with it something the brand calls G-Vectoring Control. The Japanese automaker says this system – which varies engine torque in response to steering inputs – results in “improved handling for the driver and ride quality for the passengers around corners”.

Exterior styling updates are subtle, and include an updated Mazda badge that sits slightly lower than before, redesigned fog-lights, new alloy wheels and fresh side-skirts. The rear of the hatchback model also receives a slight design tweak and new exterior colours have been introduced.

Inside, the entry-level model gains Bluetooth as standard, while models sporting the “Individual” trim now also feature cruise control as standard."

Pricing (both hatch and sedan):

Mazda3 1,6L Original Manual: R258 900
Mazda3 1,6L Active Manual: R271 800
Mazda3 1,6L Dynamic Manual: R284 900
Mazda3 1,6L Dynamic Auto: R295 900
Mazda3 2,0L Individual Manual: R331 900
Mazda3 2,0L Individual Auto: R343 900
Mazda3 2,0L Astina Auto: R378 400
Mazda3 2,0L Astina Plus Auto: R407 900

The slightly updated Mazda3 has landed in South Africa, here are the facelifted range’s details and local pricing.

The Mazda3 has been selling relatively well in SA – the Hiroshima-based manufacturer sells around 200 units a month in a highly competitive segment that includes the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Opel Astra, plus many others. The update to the Mazda3 adds G-Vectoring and other high-end technologies to the compact hatchback's package.

The exterior enhancements are limited to a Mazda badge that sits slightly lower than on the current model, redesigned fog lights, new alloy wheels and reshaped side skirts. The back of the hatch receives a minor redesign, but it’s difficult to tell the difference if we’re honest. New exterior colours have also been introduced: Eternal Blue Mica, Sonic Silver metallic, Soul Red metallic and Machine Gray metallic, the manufacturer says.

Judging by this rear 3-quarter-angle aspect, the Mazda3's changes are very subtle. "Answers on a postcard please".

Meanwhile, the G-Vectoring control system makes its debut on the Mazda3 and is available as standard on all the 2.0-litre models. The system directs torque/transfers weight to the driven wheel with the most traction and Mazda claims the system “aims to make racecar-like cornering precision.”

Mazda has also added a new top-of-the-range derivative called the Astina Plus. The Astina Plus is fitted with much of Mazda’s advanced tech that we have seen on the CX-5. Standard features include adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, driver attention alert and Smart City Brake support. City Brake support works at speeds of 4-80 kph and monitors the car in front in order to detect the possibility of impact.

In the event the system detects a high risk of impact, it issues visual and audible warnings and primes the brakes for faster responses to middle pedal inputs.

Dats nice ^^^^^^. Wonder why not getting the 2.5.
Many local buyers don't seem to want larger engines... Fuel economy, etc...

Even if it's as economical as a 1.4 turbo, the mindset will make many think twice so I doubt it would be a good seller anyway.

Would be a fun drive. 120+ kw and loads of torque on a N/A engine. This is a Mazda fail.

But the 2L already makes 120kw more than that and you're in turbo hot hatch bracket. Mazda doesn't want to go there it seems hench no mps badges this time around
