2017 Suzuki Ignis

Great pricing!

Suzuki Ignis (2017) Specs & Prices

The pint-sized Suzuki Ignis is being launched in South Africa this week. Here are specifications and pricing for this model.

The Ignis is a compact family car/crossover that's all about fun-sized, yet practical motoring. Three derivatives are available: 1.2 GL, 1.2 GLX and 1.2 GLX Auto and the distinctive newcomer adds some funkiness to a competitive segment that contains crossover-derivatives of compact hatchbacks and city cars, such as the Renault Sandero Stepway, Volkswagen Cross Up!, Toyota Etios Cross. Futhermore, the newcomer seems particularly well suited to local conditions: 180 mm of ground clearance is a boon on dirt- or poorly maintained roads.

Engine and transmission

There'll be just 1 engine with two transmission options for the 2017 Suzuki Ignis. It's a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, with outputs of 61 kW and 113 Nm. It may not sound like much, but when you consider the Ignis weighs just 850 kg, performance will be spritely. Suzukis tend to offer great fuel consumption and the Ignis is claimed to sip 5.1 L/100 km.

Two transmission options are available: a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic.

Features and equipment

The Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GL 5-speed manual comes standard with:

Colour-coded door handles and mirrors
Aircon, power steering
Dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, BAS.
Electric windows and mirrors
USB/MP3/CD Player
Remote central locking
ISOFIX Child seat mounts
60/40 split folding rear seats
Trip computer

The Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GLX 5-speed manual/automatic comes standard with:

15-inch black alloy wheels

Chrome grille
Roof rails
LED daytime running lights and LED projector headlamps
Front fog lights
Automatic climate control

Suzuki Ignis prices in South Africa:

189k for top spec model is pretty decent and it comes with a really decent kit!

178k for a citi vivo which comes with nothing :P

Wait a second, it seems we don't get the touch screen infotainment system?

Why do we always get screwed over?

In this context I would hazard a guess it's more for the low price point.

In UK the range starts at 10 249 GBP (R172k); then next model is 11 479 GBP (R192k) then followed by 13 249 GBP (R220k). All 1.2L N/A motors.

UK range base model has no proper infotainment system as well. Next two models do.

I agree. They should have at least added it as standard for the GLX models.

It would have completed the look of that interior greatly.

Or offered it as an option at least. What are the options in this thing anyway? Suzuki SA website does not list it as yet.

The Suzuki Swift 1.2GL sells at R167 500....Just saying.

I'm sure that it has all of the above.

Mutton dressed as lamb?

I don't see it as that tbh. The higher ground clearance + outlandish styling means the Ignis appeals to a more youthful demographic or one with more styling chic. Both cars can be in the same/similar market space & achieve success. Swift was still be the volume seller even though it's on the way out but Ignis is a refreshing alternative that is not priced stupidly.

Besides the lack of a proper infotainment system in local models, on paper, there is very little to complain about.

I will be tracking how much sales they are pulling in as well as the consistenty of the sales. Eg. Does it taper off after 3-6 months etc.

......... is not priced stupidly.

As a total aside, I looked at the latest Car magazine to see what other cars are in that price range and my eye fell on the page of the comparative road test of the Audi S5 and AMG C43 where the parts prices are listed.

The Ignis costs less than four left headlamps of an audi S5 Coupe. The left headlamp costs R50,844.00.

In this regard the Ignis is certainly good value for money!
:wtf:
