2018 MG 3

Tweed Jacket Reviews: 2019 MG3 1.5 Exclusive - Lloyd Vehicle Consulting

In this review, suitably attired, we go for a drive out in the Surrey countryside to test a wonderful 2019 MG3 1.5 Exclusive and see how practical it is, what it is like to drive and what it is like to own.

Be prepared for more in-jokes for fans of 1960s ITC television shows (as usual), references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal spoof science series Look Around You, some interesting items in the boot, Hello Yellow paintwork, a lovely big touchscreen with Apple Carplay, the first appearance of the official secret mission documents, confusion about sequels and sensible consumer advice (finally).

Nothing untoward, then...

2014 MG3 1.5 Style vs 2019 MG3 1.5 Exclusive Walkaround - Lloyd Vehicle Consulting

Today, I had the privilege of having MG drop off a 2019 MG3 1.5 Exclusive to test for a week. The first thing I did was to park it next to my lady wife's 2014 MG3 1.5 Style and make a video explaining some of the differences and similarities between these cars (there are a surprising number of differences in this comprehensive face-lift).

Looks promising. I would consider if if it were in SA. No turbo means it should durable/less wear. Theft should also be low and so should insurance.
As for brand loyalty, I do agree that South Africans are biased to certain brands HOWEVER just look at Haval and how well they are doing. I've seen more H2's than Toyota rush and that says alot about the local market.

CHEAP CAN BE CHEERFUL: 2014 MG MOTOR UK MG3 REVIEW - drivetribe

765288

Back in 1980, British Leyland launched the LC8, otherwise known as the Austin Metro. Immediately taking the British home market by storm, the car became a mainstream super-mini but quickly became synonymous for build quality faults and body corrosion problems.

Even though BL made some interesting versions of the Metro, including the MG Metro Turbo and the Metro 6R4, it never really got a true replacement. Well not unless if you count the dreadful CityRover. o_O

33 years later and after the later MG Rover Group going bust in April 2005, the new and improved MG released a car that I believe truly replaces both the Metro and possibly the Mini.

MG Motor UK's MG3 was launched with mixed reviews. Some people loved it, with it's low price of less than £10,000 for the top model, abundance of equipment and a chunky design statement that set it out from other super-minis on the road.

On the other hand there were people who despised it because of cheap interior plastics, a sluggish engine and the fact that MG is now owned by Chinese car manufacturer SAIC.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GOING FOR A DRIVE - drivetribe

In today's modern age of workaholics, social media addictions and things happening left right and centre, we tend to not have the chance to just clear our heads and stop.

More importantly for us petrol heads, a lot of us don't disconnect ourselves from daily life and really get to know what lies out there for us and our cars.

As mentioned in my MG3 review. It is one of the cheapest cars that money can buy here in Britain that handles quite adequately.

Darting through the twists and turns of these little back roads really made me appreciate the thought that went into making it fun, even though it might not have been the main aim with the design of the MG3.

By the time I had gotten back to my house, night had fallen but I had completely re-discovered not only my love for discovering new places but also the joy I get from the cracking little MG.

It has really made me look forward to getting some performance parts on it to make it that little bit more personal and fun to drive.

MG poised to launch compact electric hatchback

New MG supermini will supplement the petrol-engined 3, will arrive in 2021

MG will aim to offer one of the best value electric cars available with a new EV supermini; one of its two models expected to launch next year.

While the first - production version of the E-Motion - will increase the desirability factor and boost the brand’s image, MG will also stay true to its modern-day ethos with a low-cost, battery-powered rival to the Renault Zoe.

Due to be launched at the end of 2021, the compact EV will be similar in size to the current 3, Autocar understands, but won’t directly replace that car initially, as it remains a desirable, low-cost offering sought after by dealers and buyers alike.

As with the production E-Motion, MG has revealed few technical details, but we expect the new model to borrow battery and powertrain technology from MG’s other UK-market EVs. However, the battery capacity is likely to decrease from the ZS EV’s 44.5kWh in order to reduce both the new car’s cost and the impact on interior space.

MG 3 replacement to continue with petrol power

Electric powertrain thought to be too expensive for brand’s entry-level model, which currently retails from £13k

MG will stick with petrol power for the replacement for the MG3 supermini, due before the end of 2024, but likely add a hybrid system to reduce CO2.

The current MG3 is now a minor player within MG compared to hotter selling models like the MG ZS small SUV and MG HS compact SUV, but the Chinese-owned brand still sold 3876 of the car to the end of September, up 134 percent on the year before.

MG is focusing more on electric power with the launch of the MG4 compact hatchback, a rival to the VW ID3, and the facelifted MG5, the only EV compact estate. The brand also sells the electric version of the ZS and a plug-in hybrid version of the HS.

However the number don’t stack up to convert the MG3 to electric power, hence its continuation as a combustion engine model, UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis, told Autocar.

“Developing a small electric car is only marginally cheaper than developing a bigger car,” he said. “Then half the price is battery so it becomes a £25,000 car which is unaffordable”.
