Should I buy one?

As with the hatchback, it’s impossible to know whether to recommend the Corolla Touring Sports yet, because no prices or specs are available. Again, the latter should add to its appeal, with Toyota vowing to outpunch its rivals on equipment levels, especially around the safety kit it will provide as standard. And, again, you would expect Toyota and the Corolla to deliver in terms of the customer service and reliability for which the brand is famous.

But without a price, the best conclusion we can offer from this prototype drive is to say that the Corolla Touring Sports is definitely worth a second look when we get to drive it on a wider variety of roads and with more information at our fingertips.

Seems Toyota has 3 infotainment systems:

1. Is aftermarket modified system.

2. Is the Asian version that comes with Android Auto and Carplay.

3. Global version which only has. Apple Carplay.

My bet is they might fit it would either the Asian version or the aftermarket modified version.

I agree with your view on all 3 points.

I just need to add that for option 3 the system is called Toyota Touch 2 & only very very recently got CarPlay in the latest 2018 & 2019 models.

Personally I think local models will be fitted with option 3.
 
Toyota Corolla saloon set for China show debut

Largest version of new Corolla will be revealed at China's Guangzhou motor show

Toyota has confirmed that the saloon version of the upcoming 12th-generation Corolla will be revealed later this month at China's Guangzhou motor show.

The saloon is the latest-generation Corolla's third body style, following the recently revealed hatchback and Touring Sports. It will make its debut on 16 November, ahead of an early 2019 launch, although it is not expected to come to the UK.

It will be based on Toyota's TNGA modular platform, which is also used on the Prius and Camry, and will be built in Toyota's Turkish plant alongside the C-HR crossover.

The saloon has been spotted testing in heavy camouflage and is understood to take its design cues from the Corolla hatchback.

It will be the first Corolla saloon to be offered with hybrid engines: either a 121bhp 1.8, which is also used in the C-HR and Prius, or a new 2.0-litre version with 178bhp that is available in the hatchback and Touring Sports variants. There will be only one conventional petrol engine – a 1.2-litre unit with 114bhp – and no diesel.

Now that Toyota has axed the Auris name for its UK models, the new car will be known as the Corolla globally.

All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla to compete in BTCC

Toyota Team GB announces plans to race new Corolla with Speedworks Motorsport and driver Tom Ingram

The all-new Toyota Corolla will compete in the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

The Corolla - which goes on sale as a road car next spring, with the racing championship starting at Brands Hatch in April - will be prepared by Speedworks Motorsport and driven by two-time BTCC Independent class champion Tom Ingram. Team Toyota GB is the official entrant of the car.

A rival for the Ford Focus and VW Golf in the road car market, the Corolla previously competed in the BTCC, with Chris Hodgetts winning back-to-back championship titles in a Corolla GT Coupe in 1986 and 1987.

Last season, driving a Toyota Avensis, Ingram scored nine outright victories in the BTCC and he and the Speedworks team scooped both the Independent Driver and Team trophies in 2017 and 2018.

While the road-going Corolla will only be sold in the UK with a choice of two hybrid powertrains, it will compete in the BTCC with a two-litre petrol engine.

BTCC organisers have outlined plans to introduce hybrid power to the series from 2021, having already moved forward a mooted 2022 start date.

Toyota exec says brand ‘intends’ to build a hot Corolla TRD

A high-ranking executive at Toyota North America says the automaker has an “intention” to build a Corolla TRD based on the new-generation hatchback.

Speaking to AutoGuide.com, Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota brand in North America, said he would like to roll out the TRD badge to “every car and SUV and every truck”.

“I love the TRD brand, I love what Toyota Racing Development does, and I like learning from our motorsports teams and putting it into our cars,” Hollis told the US-based publication.

“And if we can bring it to every car and SUV and every truck, I think we should,” he said, commenting after the brand unveiled its new Camry TRD and Avalon TRD sedans (complete with “aero-enhanced” styling, uprated underpinnings and more aggressive exhaust notes) at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Hollis added that while a Corolla TRD was “not in the plans yet”, there was “intention and development” going on behind the scenes.

At the end of October 2018, Toyota in the US took the wraps off a modified version of its new Corolla hatchback (pictured above), with the “track-inspired” model displayed at the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.

Interestingly, the TRD badge is no longer used in major markets outside North America, with Toyota’s growing range of performance vehicles in Japan instead comprising the range-topping GRMN, mid-tier GR series and the entry-level GR Sport models.

Should I buy one?

Downsides? Not many, although we’ll need to see how the hybrid versions handle with their below-back-seat battery packs.

Indeed, the back seat itself could offer more room, and the boot is hardly yawning. But it’s not bad-looking in lightly sporty XSE trim.

Although the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf might just outpoint it for driver appeal, it’s a hell of a lot more engaging than most Corollas past, and every Auris, too.

Just got a sneaky, undercover look at the new Corolla Hatch. Looks pretty nice actually. Not sure which model I was looking at though, besides "XS" badging - engine looked a bit big for a 1.2. The whole car looks a little smaller than previous models, but that may just be me. Over all it looks really nice.
