Toyota Announces Corolla Trek
Toyota is making good on its promises to offer a diverse Corolla portfolio. Targeting the outdoor enthusiasts comes the Corolla Trek.
What you're looking at is the estate version of the Toyota Corolla, dubbed 'Touring Sports'. Sadly the SA market has never really responded to station wagons so it's highly unlikely it'll make its way down here, but for those who don't want an SUV, it's an interesting proposition.
The Corolla Trek features 20mm additional ground clearance, a new-look grille, plastic cladding, 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, fog lights and some Trek badging. Inside, there's 2-tone upholstery, wood trim and Trek badging on the door sills. It also boasts the semi-autonomous Toyota Safety Sense which comprises auto high beam, traffic sign recognition, lane assist, pre-collision safety, pedestrian/cyclist detection as well as adaptive cruise control with auto start/stop.

Toyota Corolla GR? ‘No plans’ for Golf GTI-fighting hot hatch, says exec
A high-ranking Toyota executive in Australia says the Japanese firm currently has “no plans” to introduce a GR-branded Corolla hot hatch.
Speaking to motoring.com.au, Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s vice-president of sales and marketing, poured cold water on rumours the company would soon introduce a rival to Volkswagen’s popular Golf GTI.
“No plans at this stage for that car, the GR Corolla,” Hanley told the publication.
Hanley added while buyers were “very open to performance cars”, they had to come at the “appropriate time and it has to be the appropriate product”.

Performance-inspired hatchback and rugged estate are added to the line-up, while pure petrol power is ditched
The Toyota Corolla is now offered in the UK exclusively as a hybrid, with the sole non-electrified engine having been ditched as part of a range revamp for 2020.
The line-up for the Ford Focus rival now includes two new variants that were revealed at the Geneva motor show earlier this year: the performance-inspired GR Sport hatchback and the high-riding Touring Sports Trek estate. Notably, all versions will now feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

A fresh report out of the United Kingdom claims the long-rumoured Toyota GR Corolla will use the same turbocharged 1,6-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as the smaller GR Yaris.
According to Auto Express, the Corolla hot hatch will hit the market only in 2023, powered by the G16E-GTS powerplant first seen in the GR Yaris.
Billed as the world’s most powerful production three-pot, the petrol unit offers 200 kW and 370 N.m in the JDM-spec version of the hot Yaris. Auto Express, however, says the upcoming GR-badged Corolla’s peak outputs remain “unclear” for now.

Toyota took the covers off the bonkers little GR Yaris last month and it seems the GR brand is not going to slow down.
According to a new report on Auto Express, a Toyota GR Corolla will arrive in the UK in 2023 with the same turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as the GR Yaris.
The engine is Toyota’s turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol unit which happens to be the world’s most powerful three-cylinder production engine, offering an output of 268 hp (200 kW) in the Japanese-delivered versions of the GR Yaris.

Toyota South Africa quietly adds two-tone option for Corolla hatchback
Interestingly, while the upgrade from a single colour to two-tone adds R10 500 to the price in the case of the 1,2 XS CVT and 1,2 XR, it costs R25 800 in the case of the base 1,2 XS manual, according to Toyota SA’s website.

A fresh report out of Australia suggests Toyota is preparing to reveal a new “warm hatch” version of its Corolla, likely employing a hybrid powertrain and again wearing the GR Sport badge.
According to CarsGuide, a new version of the GR Sport model will be unwrapped in Japan in July 2020, complete with a powertrain upgrade, chassis tweaks and more aggressive styling.

Toyota South Africa has updated the Corolla Hatch for 2020, adding a few modern features and updating some of the safety spec.
In a bid to try and up the sales of the Corolla Hatch (sales have not met expectations) Toyota South Africa has installed a few updates for the Auris replacement.
For starters, the whole range now benefits from wireless charging. The speed of the wireless charger is not mentioned but we suspect it to be the same as the 1.5mA USB charger. There is no mention of Apple Carplay or Android Auto being added, but we have it on good authority that the rollout to Corolla Hatch will happen during 2020.

I think this model is not meeting sales expectations because it's too expensive. It's still a Toyota Auris (before the last minute name change) under all the bells and whistles with a "new" engine that should have been introduced in the outgoing generation alongside C-HR. It's a beautiful design but my assumption is that buyers in this price range are simply looking elsewhere and getting more value for their money.
