2019 Ford Focus - 4th Generation (incl ST)

Take a look at the EU-spec 2019 Ford Focus Trend

Earlier this week we got a look at the all-new Ford Focus both ST Line and Vignale trim levels. Now Ford has released images of the car in its more basic Trend trim.

It should be noted, however, that this particular Trend trim is specific to the German market and displays notable differences to the current Trend spec in South Africa, with local spec yet to be confirmed.

Next to the ST Line, the Trend loses its LED headlamps, foglamps, honeycomb grille and sports bumper. The alloy wheels have also been replaced by steel wheels with plastic hubcaps.

Other exterior items such as side skirts and the rear bumper have been altered to suit the base spec.

A step inside the cabin will reveal the loss of a touchscreen infotainment system and different climate controls, upholstery and dashboard and door card trims. Other than that, the cabins are fundamentally the same.

Perhaps it is dual-screen setup? You can game on the one and do your email on the other.

Why do they always make the hubcaps on the entry-level models ugly AF?

Latest Tuscon's now have a bigger, full colour display...saw one with the upgraded display at Hyundai Centurion the other day. Might only be on higher end models with navigation though - the salesman wasn't sure when I asked him about it.

My point, where does the line stop? Next thing Renault comes up with the RS-line on top of the Gt-line? It just irritates me because it dilutes what the performance badge represents, exclusivity. I am glad Mercedes realised that when they stopped putting the AMG badge on non AMG cars, but it seems things are just starting in this segment.
 
New Ford Focus ST to downsize to 1,5-litre triple – report

A fresh report out of the United States suggests that the upcoming new-generation Ford Focus ST will downsize from the outgoing model’s turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder unit to a 1,5-litre three-cylinder engine.

According to AutoGuide, the new version of the front-wheel-drive C-segment hot hatch – based on the recently revealed fourth-generation Focus (pictured above in ST-Line guise) – will be unveiled prior to the end of 2018, before going on sale in initial markets the following year.

While the four-pot in the current Focus ST churns out 184 kW, the report speculates that the smaller 1,5-litre turbo-triple expected to do duty in the next-generation version will make up to 205 kW.

AutoGuide adds that the 1,5-litre will in all likelihood be cleaner and more efficient than the current engine, while also offering a cylinder deactivation function. Of course, Ford followed a similar formula with its new Fiesta ST, moving from a 1,6-litre four-cylinder unit to a 1,5-litre three-pot, which in this case makes 147 kW.

In related news, an earlier report suggested that the next-generation, all-wheel-drive Focus RS (slotting in above the Focus ST) would employ a mild-hybrid set-up to boost peak power past 300 kW.

And in less than 60000 kms it will be recalled to fix "white smoke" issues.
 
205 kw from a 1.5 3-pot is friggin' insane.

I have to wonder about the long-term reliability of these high output small engines. Especially given Ford's heated history...
 
I’m all for downsizing and turbo-charging on these small entry level hatchbacks, but not so sure on hot hatches, we’ll see how it performs against its rivals

Let's see, it used to trail behind the Megane and Gti, i am certain that their attraction to the three cylinder is due to the weight savings it brings, they will surely compete, it is reliability thatbtheyvwill struggle with.
