Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD revealed for the purists

Expanding the Lamborghini Huracan range even further is this EVO RWD which bases itself off the all-wheel drive model revealed last July. This rear-driven derivative sports some redesigned lines, a lower mass and a detuned power output.

Fitted to the middle is the brand’s naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 which has been cranked down to 449 kW and 560 N.m of torque from the coupe’s 470 kW and 600 N.m power output. The rear axle has been fitted with a specially calibrated performance traction control system which allows it to improve corner-exit traction by 20% and enhances oversteer by 30% over the previous rear-wheel drive Huracan.

Despite there being less power under the bonnet, the EVO RWD is also 33 kg lighter than the all-wheel drive model as it weighs in at 1 389 kg. This gives it a 0-100 km/h time of 3,3 seconds (0-200 km/h can be completed in 9,3 seconds) and a top speed of 325 km/h. This makes it 0,4 seconds slower than its AWD counterpart.

Lamborghini adds Amazon Alexa to Huracan Evo

New integration allows drivers to use voice commands to adjust in-car and home-based objects such as heated seats and entry gates

Lamborghini has introduced an Amazon Alexa function to its 2020 Huracán Evo, claiming to be the first manufacturer to offer in-car control via the program.

The Alexa-integrated supercar, which will be demonstrated at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, will allow drivers to adjust climate, interior lighting and seat heating with voice commands.

With Alexa available to order on every Huracan during the course of 2020, drivers will be able to use it to place calls, get directions, play music and audiobooks and check the news.

2020 Lamborghini Huracán EVO Gets Amazon Alexa

Lamborghini has introduced Amazon Alexa to its 2020 Huracán EVO which according to the manufacturer is a first.

The Alexa-integrated supercar will allow drivers to adjust climate, interior lighting and seat heating with voice commands.

Commenting on the new function, Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali said: “Lamborghini is a future shaper, and this is the first time an automaker will deliver in-cabin car control through Amazon Alexa to bring together car controls as well as smart commands and Alexa’s standard capabilities.”

Tuning house Vorsteiner has taken to social media to share some rendered images of a new aero package for the Lamborghini Huracán EVO.

You may think it looks like a baby Aventador SVJ and you would be right as this was the inspiration behind the kit and we think it looks absolutely fantastic.

At the front, you will see the front bumper upright fin add-on as seen on the V12 flagship model at this time. At the back, you will notice a meaner and lower diffuser but the most prominent new component is the massive rear wing, complete with a middle strut like the one holding the air intake on the Aventador SVJ.

Verdict

As far as mid-life facelifts go, they don't usually come more "transformative" than this one... Whereas the "Huracan experience" was previously dominated by the supercar's wild aesthetics and the drama of its charismatic powerplant, the Evo is now a more complete package; its dynamic ability has been elevated to a level that makes the Italian machine not only more fun to drive in isolation, but more competitive within the context of its market rivals. Lamborghini needs to be applauded for its new LDVI system in particular – it could easily have made the car feel too safe and predictable at the limit... but what it's done is make the car feel more like a wild Lamborghini. And that, folks, is a big win.

Hard, low, fast: Lamborghini's Huracan Evo just begs to be driven

Worth buying?

Look, it’s not cheap, and once you start ticking away at the options boxes, you’ll find yourself close to the R7 million mark. But, for your money, you’re getting a 470kW 5.2-litre beast of a naturally asprirated car that will remain sought after for many years to come. I timed the car using Thrust Mode (launch control) and it sprinted from a standstill to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds on an unprepared surface. It will top out at around 325km/h, but all the while you feel as though there’s more in reserve.

When it comes to value for money, it’s always challenging to call these premium cars good value, but in this car, you truly have hypercar levels of accleration on the lower end, which will cost twice the price at other dealerships. For me, I’d have a Huracan Evo as part of my collection, but not as a daily, which they say it’s been designed for.

If you want a daily-drive V10 beast, look at the latest Audi R8, which should land in SA soon. If you want to turn heads and have one of the best driving cars ever made in the garage, definitely consider the 2020 Huracan Evo.

Lamborghini will reveal the drop-top version of the Huracán EVO RWD tomorrow and will become the first automotive brand to use Augmented Reality (AR) for the virtual launch.

Using Apple’s AR Quick Look, the company is bringing its latest V10 super sports car directly to customers and fans worldwide: all they need is an iPhone or iPad*.

The reveal is scheduled for the 7th of May at 13:00 CET on its official website which is where you can view the new model in augmented reality. The new Lamborghini Huracán Evo RWD Spyder has been revealed, mixing rear-wheel drive with open-top, V10-flavoured thrills.

Like the RWD-badged coupé, the latest Spyder employs the Sant'Agata Bolognese-based company’s naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10, detuned slightly from the all-paw models’ 470 kW and 600 N.m to 449 kW and 560 N.m.

Still, that’s enough grunt for the rear-driven newcomer to hit 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 3,5 seconds (four tenths behind the all-paw Huracán Evo Spyder), reach 200 km/h in a claimed 9,6 seconds and top out at a hairstyle-destroying 324 km/h.

According to Lamborghini, the Huracán Evo RWD Spyder’s downforce matches that of the coupé without requiring “additional aerodynamic appendages”.

Should I buy one?

So do you go for the Huracán Evo Spyder, 720S Spider or F8 Tributo Spider? Boil it down and they’re very different cars. The Lamborghini is less about purity and nuance (McLaren) or exploitable handling (Ferrari) and more about superficial drama underpinned by just enough security underwheel to fully unleash the whirlwind V10.

Those priorities won’t be for everyone but they’re very Lamborghini, and frankly, nothing beats the Huracán Spyder at its own addictive game.

Perhaps when the V&A puts on another automotive retrospective 50 years from now, Sant’Agata should dust off up this Arancio Xanto press car. Tame but wild, in many ways it’s the quintessential modern Lambo.
