Fresh from ditching its rear-engine configuration in 2020, Chevrolet has announced that an hybrid version of the Corvette Stingray is coming in 2023. And that a fully electric version will follow it.

You could argue that the V8 engine saved the Corvette. After two years with an inline six, the Vette made eight cylinders an option and its buyers never looked back. Now, as the era of the combustion engine wanes and V8 performance cars are dying on the vine, it seems Chevrolet once again wants a new powertrain to keep the Corvette going — this time, one powered by batteries.
We’ve known for a while that Chevrolet was working on a hybrid Corvette, but GM has never confirmed the nameplate would see the age of electrification. Now, the secret is out: A hybrid Corvette next year, and a fully electric one coming down the line.
The hybrid’s teaser, complete with snowy burnouts, tells half the story. It shows what appears to be cold weather testing for the new powertrain, if “incredibly long powerslides” fit any standard testing procedure. Of course, it makes sense to test your cars under real-world conditions — who would buy an AWD Corvette without plans to snow drift it?
But the video, entertaining as it is, is light on details. For those, there’s another source — a LinkedIn post from GM President Mark Reuss, discussing future plans for both gas and hybrid variants of the current Corvette. There’s even mention of a fully electric version of Chevy’s two-seater, to come sometime in the future.

A hybrid version of the Chevrolet Corvette has been confirmed for launch, and an electric version is also on the way.
In a tweet showing a camouflaged Corvette prototype undergoing cold-weather testing, Chevrolet confirmed that an “electrified Corvette” - likely to be a hybrid - will be available “as early as next year”.
In the teaser video, the front wheels can be seen moving before the rear wheels, confirming an all-wheel-drive set-up. The video featured dubbed V8 engine noise, suggesting that it depicts the hybrid version.

Mark Reuss, the president of Chevy, announced on Monday that the electric Corvette is in development and it will be available from next year - initially as a hybrid, but it will be shortly followed by a battery-only EV. The interesting part of that announcement is the fact that the electric version won’t replace the ICE - no sir, it’ll be an addition to the Corvette lineup.
This is already creating a lot of controversy, after all Corvette was always about power and noise. There will be a lot of upset people out there, hardcore fans of Corvette would suffer unreversible health problems if the EV was the only option and Chevy decided to play it safe and just add the electric version to already available petrol ones.

Chevrolet confirms it’s working on all-electric Corvette
General Motors has announced that it is developing an electric version of its Chevrolet Corvette.
"We will offer an electrified Corvette as early as next year," said the Detroit-based car manufacturer in a statement. "Details and names to come at a later date."
"Yes, in addition to the amazing new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and other petrol-powered variants coming, we will offer an electrified and a fully electric" Corvette in the future, Mark Reuss, GM president said on the professional site LinkedIn.
The current Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is powered by a mid-mounted, normally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine, which produces 369kW.
The announcement comes as traditional carmakers are in a race to produce more electric vehicles to compete with Tesla.

C8s Damaged by Tornado at Corvette Factory Are Being Parted Out on eBay - Road & Track
After a tornado struck the Corvette factory in December, GM had to scrap 122 not-yet-completed Vettes. Now we know their fate.
When a tornado struck General Motors' Bowling Green Assembly plant in December, it caused fires and leaks that forced GM to write off 122 Corvettes. Those Corvettes, mostly still on the assembly line, died before they ever got to live.
But thanks to CorvetteBlogger, which was tipped off by one of its readers, we now know that the sports cars didn't die completely in vain. The site located a bunch of eBay listings by Stricker Auto Parts for 2022 Corvette parts, pulled from cars that in some cases show 0 miles on the odometer.
Since cars always leave the factory with a few miles on them, it's safe to say these are cars that never got finished.
Plus, CorvetteBlogger notes that the listings that show full cars have X's on the windshield, which the site spotted on the tornado cars in drone footage from the factory.
There aren't enough listings to know if all 122 Corvettes will eventually be parted out by the same seller, but if you're looking for never-used C8 parts with some interesting history, I recommend perusing the Stricker Auto Parts eBay listings.

New twin-turbocharged Corvette ZR1 test mule spotted
A cloaked Corvette was recently spotted prowling around the GM Milford Proving Grounds, resulting in quite a lot of speculation around what’s under the sheets. Is it a ZR1? A C8? Maybe the E-Ray Hybrid?
Muscle Cars & Trucks reports that the camouflaged Chevrolet is the next Corvette C8 ZR1 which will have a twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder heart pumping 634 kW to the rear wheels. All of this information comes from MC&T’s “bulletproof sources” so take everything with a grain of salt.
MC&T’s insider said that the ZR1 will be powered by a higher output variant of the LT6 engine codenamed ”Gemini”. The Gemini is a twin turbocharged flat-plane V8 that will be mated to an Tremec bred 8-speed DCT similar to the transmission architecture found in previous C8’s. For comparison, the 2022 C8 is fitted with the LT2 engine that produces around 365 kW as a result of the larger 6,2-litre naturally aspirated V8.

70th Anniversary Edition Corvettes will stand out in one of two exterior colors unique to this package - an all-new White Pearl Metallic Tri-coat or Carbon Flash Metallic. Optional stripes are available in complementing colors - Satin Gray with the White Pearl Metallic Tri-coat and Satin Black with the Carbon Flash Metallic.
The 70th Anniversary Edition Corvettes feature distinct wheels with commemorative wheel center caps. While Stingray and Z06 each have separate wheel designs, the wheels share a similar dark finish and Edge Red stripe.

The Best Corvette Is the One You've Driven
The 2022 Corvette Stingray makes for a delightful daily driver, even for something like the F1 Miami Grand Prix. I fell in love.
When I’m coaching new writers through their first press loaner, I usually advise them to take some photos as soon as they get the car, when it’s clean and shiny and freshly delivered; you should be taking photos later, too, but it’s nice to get a bulk of your shots out of the way and off your plate so your later photoshoots can focus on the things you want to talk about in detail. But when I got my hands on a 2022 Corvette Stingray for the Miami Grand Prix, I was so excited to start driving that I totally forgot to take my pictures until I was preparing to return the car, when the ‘Vette had been well-loved during a weekend of full-throttle Formula One speed and standstill South Beach traffic.
If you want a full, proper review of the C8 Corvette, I’ve written one before when I had a chance to take the car out on the track at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School. Not much has changed for this new model year — why mess with perfection? — but instead of pushing the ‘Vette to its absolute limits, I had the pleasure of seeing how it rolled as a daily driver (or, at least, as a race track commuter).
My first stumbling block came with the whole “luggage capacity” situation, for which I should have adequately prepared but did not:
