That's a $100,000 markup over the Z06's already six-figure MSRP
As Elon Musk quickly found out after taking over Twitter, it’s easy to make things up on the internet for attention. Perhaps you spend $8 to verify a fake account that tweets out a sports rumor that gets thousands of likes before being taken down. Or perhaps you print out a sales form that includes an insane dealer markup on a new car to share on Reddit. It’s easy to do and happens all the time. Except in the case of the quarter-million-dollar Corvette Z06.
Recently, Texas dealership Covert Chevrolet listed a 2023 Chevrolet Z06 for sale with a $100,000 dealer markup. With options, that brought the price of the car up to an eye-wateringly high $241,995. On a car that starts at $106,395.
To be clear, that’s about the base price of a Ferrari Roma. You’ll be putting down faster lap times in the Corvette Z06 and probably can’t get a Roma if you haven’t already ordered one, but still. It’s crazy to think that any Corvette, no matter how special, would command Ferrari money. I mean, it’s a car you’re going to have to get serviced at the same place that sells the Chevrolet Trax.

The Real Story Behind That 'Pre-Production' C8 Corvette on Bring a Trailer
Yes, it started life as a pre-production 2021 Stingray owned by GM. But the story about this car escaping the crusher to land on BaT is probably exaggerated.
This week, a tantalizing listing went up on Bring a Trailer for a “Pre-Production 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe C8.R 01EX.” In the comments, the listing seller tells a tale of a General Motors experimental C8 prototype that somehow escaped GM’s clutches, an unaccounted-for machine that, if genuine, would count as the 1,001st example of the limited-to-1,000 C8.R Edition, a special package commemorating the mid-engine Vette’s dominant 2020 season in sports car racing. Jalopnik spoke with a Chevy representative to try and get to the bottom of the mystery.
The 2021 Stingray listed on BaT shows just 97 miles on its odometer. The seller, a Sarasota, FL dealer who posts on BaT under the user name “coolstuff,” explains in the comments that he bought the yellow Vette at auction in July and initially didn’t think it was anything special. Then he noticed a few unusual details: the bodywork showed traces of adhesive where racing stripe decals had been applied, then removed. Even more puzzling, the car wore an interior plaque that marked it as a one-of-1,000 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition.

If you believe Car and Driver’s reporting, Chevrolet is about to follow Ford’s lead and turn the Corvette into its own sub-brand. The coupe we all know and love won’t be going anywhere, but it will be joined by an electric crossover and a four-door liftback sedan, and there will reportedly be an electric version of the C8.
Car and Driver won’t reveal who their source is for this information, and it’s probably best that they don’t, but allegedly, they’ve seen the initial design proposals and can confirm that Chevrolet is going forward with plans to create an entire family of Corvette models. Corvette enthusiasts probably won’t be happy if this report is accurate, but Dominic Toretto probably would be. After all, nothing is more important than family.
C/D’s source claims the designs are “copies of nothing” and “encapsulated emotional purity,” which does lend some credence to the report because no one who doesn’t work for an automaker would ever describe cars that way. Even people who do work for automakers would probably cringe at “encapsulated emotional purity.” But since we haven’t spoken to their source or confirmed the accuracy of their information, we can’t say for sure that it’s accurate.
Their description of the tech going into the new family of Corvettes does sound appealing, though. It includes “battery packs with high energy density, superfast software, a patented cooling concept, staggered Lego-like topographic packaging, miniaturized componentry, ultra-efficient inverters, high-revving electric motors, an 800-volt electrical system that provides up to 350 kW of charging power, a two-speed transmission, brake-by-wire, multi-mode four-wheel steering, and torque vectoring.”

Chevy's online configurator site for the E-Ray was discovered by Corvette fans, who got screenshots and details before the site was taken down.
Last night some keen-eyed Corvette fans on corvetteforum.com, midenginecorvetteforum.com and other sites noticed that a visualizer for the upcoming 2024 Corvette E-Ray hybrid had inadvertently gone live on the Chevy website. The visualizer allowed users to play around with new color combos and options for the hybrid, all-wheel drive C8 variant that will be the most revolutionary ‘Vette ever. The visualizer has since been taken down, but the E-Ray lives on in screenshots posted online.

The E-Ray’s design matches the camouflaged hybrid C8 that Chevy teased earlier this year, our first real confirmation that an electrified Corvette was coming in 2023. It uses the same wider bodywork as the C8 Z06, with a more aggressive front end and larger side intakes. But instead of centrally mounted exhaust tips like on the Z06, the E-Ray has a pair of chrome pipes at each end of the rear bumper like on a normal C8. There are three new colors, including an awesome minty green called Cacti, and the E-Ray has a unique twisted wheel design that finally looks good. The visualizer shows available carbon-fiber wheels, a ZER Performance Package that adds Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (and likely other upgrades too), and what could be carbon-ceramic brakes.

Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid lands on 17 January
Electrified versions of American mid-engined supercar will feature a 'Stealth' mode and four-wheel drive
The latest edition of the Chevrolet Corvette, called the E-Ray Hybrid, has been confirmed for launch on 17 January, with a fully-electric E-Ray version on the way.
In a Facebook post the American firm showed a production-ready car undergoing cold-weather testing, dubbed over with a mixture of V8 grumbles and electrified whines, suggesting its anticipated hybrid powerplant.
In an earlier teaser video showing a camouflaged prototype also cold-weather testing, the front wheels were seen spinning before the rears, confirming a four-wheel drive setup. In the same video, Chevrolet confirmed that an “electrified Corvette” - likely to be a hybrid - will be available “as early as next year”.
Also revealed is both a 'Normal' and 'Stealth mode', the latter of which will likely switch the hybrid car's drivetrain from combustion and electric power to pure electric drive for towns and cities.
Stopping power will come from carbon ceramic brakes, (as revealed in the teaser video) currently only available on the outgoing Corvette Z06.
The car was seen to have been leaked on the American firm's online configurator, with buyers able to spec a range of colours not currently available on the Corvette Stingray, from 'Riptide blue' to 'Cacti', along with the option of all-blue interior leather, also not available on the outgoing Stingray.
Chevrolet is yet to reveal what powers the Corvette E-Ray Hybrid, however we expect it will feature broadly the same 495bhp 6.2-litre V8 as the ICE car, albeit with a boost provided by the accompanying electric motor.

GM announced that we'll officially see the hybrid C8 Corvette on January 17th.
Chevrolet is giving us another official look at its upcoming 2023 Corvette E-Ray, and while today’s 24-second teaser video posted on Facebook doesn’t give us too much to see, there are a couple of very important and very neat things we can learn from it. Chief among which: we now know when the company will be officially unveiling the hybrid Corvette.
According to the video, the whole world will get to see the all-new Corvette E-Ray on January 17th. That means there’s less than a week before we get to feast our eyes on HyVette and officially learn all of the juicy technical details.
Something else viewers are able to glean from the teaser is that the 2023 E-Ray will have a pure EV driving mode – which Chevrolet is calling “Stealth” – meaning the car will be able to drive for some distance using only silent battery power. This isn’t exactly something new in the world of hybrid vehicles, but it’s cool nevertheless to see a Corvette moving in complete silence. There’s no word on EV range, but there does not appear to be a charging door on the body of the E-Ray.

"E-Ray, as the first electrified, all-wheel-drive Corvette, takes it a step further and expands the promise of what Corvette can deliver."
Developed to be the Corvette owners can arrive in anywhere, no matter the season, the new E-Ray - available in removeable roof coupe and hardtop convertible models - uses electrification to enhance the driving experience with intense straight-line performance, all-weather confidence and sure-footed grand touring capabilities that can only be achieved with eAWD.
E-Ray is also the only sports car pairing two separate propulsion systems to provide naturally aspirated V-8 power with electrified responsiveness powered by eAWD, making it one like none.
"Corvette has been a halo for Chevrolet since 1953," said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. "E-Ray's unprecedented blend of confidence, luxury performance, sophistication and style provides a new reason for more people to experience Corvette."
The E-Ray is the quickest production Corvette in history, clocking a 2.5-second 0-60 mph time before breezing through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.
