2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8

Both are acceptable imo.

Watched an Episode of Jay Leno's garage last night with the Ford GT (The proper one) and its head designer, the way he butchered Nikki Lauda's name was soooo cringeworthy. Imagine trying to so Lada but with a rounded mouth, pretty much what he did.

Lol. Shame

Here Are The Standard Features On The Sub-$60,000 2020 Corvette C8 Base Model

When we heard that the mid-engine 2020 Chevrolet Corvette would start at under $60,000, we were impressed. Especially since we were a bit concerned that the vehicle would cost over six figures. Now Chevy’s released its order guide showing the equipment that the sub-$60,000 car comes with. Let’s take a look.

No, if you were worried (or hopeful, depending upon your perspective) that the base Corvette would come with hubcap-adorned steel wheels, cloth seats, and drum brakes, fear not: Even though the standard 1LT-trim Vette doesn’t get heated seats, the base GT1 seats are eight-way power leather buckets (shown below). Plus, there’s dual-zone climate control; an eight-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Near Field Communication; and a Bose 10-speaker audio system.

On top of those, there’s a high-definition backup camera with park assist (handy, since there’s an engine right behind you), a 12-inch gauge cluster display, keyless ignition and entry, Near Field Communication, remote start, valet mode, power windows with automatic up/down, illuminated vanity mirrors, heated manual-folding but power-adjustable side mirrors, and a power leather-wrapped tilting and telescoping steering wheel.

The base 2020 Corvette also comes with a stainless steel exhaust system, 19-inch silver aluminum wheels with 245/35ZR19 all-season tires up front, and 20-inch wheels with 305/30/ZR20s out back. The brakes are four-wheel discs with 12.6-inchers up front and 13.3-inchers out back, and there’s a standard mechanical limited-slip diff in the rear to manage how the 6.2-liter small-block Chevy V8—which is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission—gets its power gets to the road.

A Chevrolet Corvette C8 Has Already Crashed

The Chevrolet Corvette is pretty much brand new in the automotive world and deliveries have not even begun but one example has already been heavily damaged in a crash.

According to the Wrecked Musclecars account on Instagram, the Corvette clipped an oncoming SUV at a corner.

At the front, the driver’s side quarter panel appears to have been ripped off and the bumper has been horribly twisted and mangled. The interior airbags were also deployed in the collision.

Even The Base C8 Corvette Has A Claimed Top Speed Of 194 MPH

Not only can you buy the base mid-engine 2020 C8 Chevy Corvette for under $60,000, but that shockingly good-sounding deal also comes with a claimed top speed of nearly 200 mph.

Following Chevy’s confirmation that the C8 will start at just a hair under $60,000, literally $59,995, it also confirmed something else about the sports car—it should be pretty damn fast. GM claims the 1LT base Corvette should be capable of 194 mph on a track. The C7 debuted with a claimed top speed of 190 mph.

Paltry in comparison. How did we ever live with that?

If you want the aero upgrades that come with the Z51 Performance Pack, though, that top speed figure will suffer a little bit due to the increased downforce, as pointed out by Road & Track.

The 2022 C8 Corvette Z06 Might Be An 800-HP Twin Turbo Monster: Report

Less than a month after the base-spec C8 Corvette was shown to the public, rumors of what the hotter C8s will be like are already percolating.

Automobile is reporting that the C8 Corvette Z06 is due as a 2022 model and could feature a version of Cadillac’s Blackwing hot V twin-turbo V8 making upwards of 800 horsepower and perhaps more than 700 lb-ft of torque. That engine won’t wear the Blackwing name though, probably trading it for LT7.

According to Automobile, the new Z06 could see some major changes from the base Corvette when it comes to the transmission as well. While this is far from confirmed, a 10-speed dual clutch gearbox could replace the 7-speed currently on offer. Perhaps less likely is the third pedal that is no longer an option on the standard car but Automobile says a manual transmission could be an option when the Z06 hits the market.

This upgraded powertrain could be matched to wider fenders to accommodate the fat rubber needed to put all of that power down, in addition to aerodynamic and suspension improvements like revised magnetic dampers and a massive wing and diffuser combo as rendered by Automobile that would keep the car planted on the track.

Here's What The 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette Sounds Like

The 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette. V8 in the middle. No manual. No chromies. Very affordable starting price. You know all of this! Now hear what the thing sounds like.

Matt Farah over at The Smoking Tire recently got behind the wheel of the mid-engine Corvette at Thunderhill as part of Road & Track’s “Performance Car of the Year” test. Because of embargo reasons, he can’t release any driving impressions until later this month, but you can see the video of the lap here.

Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible

Open-air driving has always been a part of the Chevrolet Corvette's heritage. In fact, when the Corvette debuted in 1953, it was available only as a convertible. The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray convertible builds off that heritage as the first hardtop and mid-engine convertible in Corvette history.

"We put the world on notice when we introduced the first mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette a few months ago, and now we're raising the bar with the first-ever hardtop Corvette convertible," said Brian Sweeney, Chevrolet U.S. vice president. "And the convertible will be priced only $7,500 more than entry 1LT Stingray coupe."

First and foremost, a convertible

The mid-engine 2020 Corvette C8 Stingray was engineered first and foremost as a convertible. The convertible maintains the tunnel-dominant structure and use of high-integrity die-cast parts found in the Stingray coupe.

The team engineered the hardtop to stow seamlessly into the body, maintaining the Stingray's impressive ability to store two sets of golf clubs in the trunk even with the top down. The convertible also keeps the coupe's front storage compartment, which can fit an airline-spec carry-on and a laptop bag.

The hardtop provides a quieter cabin, increased security and a cleaner look compared to the previous softtop designs.

"Our goal from the beginning was to make sure customers didn't have to sacrifice any functionality, performance or comfort when choosing the hardtop convertible," said Josh Holder, Corvette program engineering manager. "We managed to keep the same design theme as the coupe, as well as the exceptional storage capacity and track capability."

New Chevrolet Corvette Convertible gets folding hard-top

Chevrolet unveils first hard-top and mid-engined convertible in the Corvette's 66-year history

Two months after Chevrolet revealed its new 'C8' Corvette Stingray coupé, the brand has pulled the covers off the convertible version.

Continuing the theme of going against tradition with the latest model, not only is it the first mid-engined Corvette drop-top, but it's also the first to use a solid folding roof.

The roof itself, made of composite panels, is said to provide “a quieter cabin, increased security and a cleaner look” than previous soft-tops. It also avoids the usual practicality compromises of a roof of this type, meaning that the car is still able to accommodate two sets of golf clubs in the boot and keeps its front storage compartment.

The roof also features an electric rear window, which Chevrolet claims to have optimised to reduce air recirculation and wind noise. The convertible deploys the same rear spoiler available as part of the coupé’s Z51 Performance Package, with the firm claiming an identical drag coefficient as the coupé.

The 6.2-litre small-blog ‘LT2’ naturally aspirated V8 is unchanged, putting out 495bhp and 470lb ft of torque. No official stats have been provided, but reports from the US claim the performance figures are broadly the same as the coupé's.

2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette Delayed Over Worker Strike: Report

The new mid-engine 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette is almost already sold out completely, but everyone waiting on their car will have to wait a little bit longer due to the United Auto Workers strike reportedly delaying production.

It’s been three weeks since the UAW went on strike amid contract negotiations with General Motors, shutting down most of the automaker’s U.S. manufacturing operations. That includes the Bowling Green Assembly plant that was finishing up production of the outgoing front-engine C7 Corvette before retooling to build the new mid-engine C8.

That’s where the trouble lies, as reported by The Detroit Free Press:

A spokesman for GM said, “As we’ve previously stated, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray production begins in late 2019 and convertible production follows in late first-quarter 2020. It’s too early to speculate on production timing impacts on any of our vehicles due to the UAW work stoppage.”

But a person familiar with operations at Bowling Green Assembly said, “I know for a fact that this strike is directly going to affect the start of regular production for the midengine Corvette.”

That’s because the plant still must fulfill orders for the current model Corvette, dubbed the C7.

Then, the factory must undergo a tooling change to build the midengine car. GM had planned to idle the plant this week and next to retool it.

“That can’t happen because the plant hasn’t finished production of the current generation Corvette,” the person said.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2019 review

Should I buy one?

While it is possible to portray this Corvette as a cut-price supercar, it really isn't. While the engine position has switched, the C8's primary mission is the same as that of its forebears: a powerful sportscar that combines unbeatable bang-per-buck with respectable practicality. It doesn't have the dynamic focus or technical sophistication of a true supercar, but nor does it really want to be one.

It is also the slowest version of the C8, with faster versions set to include a new turbocharged overhead camshaft engine and a hybrid that will make something close to 1000hp. Those will be better able to slay really big giants.

GM has said that the Corvette will ultimately be offered in right-hand drive; the big question is whether it will try harder with international sales than previous half-hearted efforts.

Stephen Strasburg Also Won A C8 Corvette But He'll Have To Wait To Drive It

Chevrolet gave a new C8 Corvette to the World Series’ most valuable player this year, which happened to be Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg. It’s the first-ever mid-engine Corvette and also the first-ever Nationals win in the World Series, so it fits well. But Strasburg won’t get the car right away.

Strasburg won the car as part of the MVP award, with one marched out on the field for photo ops and such. (Those ops could have been better, since all of the Getty Images ones are at angles that kind of make the car look like a fish with its mouth open. But hey, no one asked me to stage them.) Car and Driver reports that Chevrolet said the car he’s standing next to is “representative of” the one he’ll get, but since the C8 isn’t in production yet, he’ll have to wait until early 2020 to actually get his prize.
