Rimac's electric superstar attempts to turn back time with its latest speedy milestone
As the new wave of electric hypercars look to continue their rich vein of form in breaking record after record, the Rimac Nevera has now furthered its list of achievements by driving fast enough to turn back time! We jest, though only just: the Nevera has set a new Guinness World Record... for the fastest recorded speed in reverse at 171.34mph.
This shatters the previous record of 102.58mph, which stood for 22 years and was set by a Caterham 7 Fireblade.
Madness, right? In a stunt that strikes a balance between satirical and downright phenomenal, Rimac has decided to set new records for fun by guiding a Nevera ‘Time Attack Edition’ to a world record by heading really, really very quickly in the other direction. No doubt next on the record hit list is a sideways speed attempt to complete the triumvirate.
The test was conducted at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, which incidentally is also where the Nevera broke over 20 other acceleration and braking records in just one day, including the magical 256mph top-speed run.

Rimac’s 1,900 horsepower electric hypercar has been breaking records all year, smashing 23 speed records back in May, and breaking the Nürburgring lap record for electric vehicles a couple of months ago. Like the photographer at a corporate retreat, after setting those records Rimac said, “Let’s do a fun one!” It slammed the car in reverse and went full send. With a full schedule of Guinness World Record measuring equipment and staff on hand, Rimac’s driver Goran Drndak stepped on board and floored it. He ran the monster EV up to 171.34 miles per hour!

Evolving market and slow Nevera sales push Croatian EV firm to realise the importance of analogue appeal
Rimac hasn't sold all 150 examples of its Nevera electric hypercar, and any replacement is unlikely to be an EV.
The Nevera was revealed in 2021 as an 1888bhp evolution of the C_Two concept, with deliveries beginning later that year and a build run of 150 units planned.
However, the Croatian firm still hasn't sold that number of cars, which CEO Mate Rimac has attributed to a decline in demand for ultra-high-end EVs.
"We started to develop [the] Nevera in 2016/2017, when electric was cool," he told the Financial Times Future of the Car conference in London.
Since then, he said, the market environment has evolved, with tastes changing as legislators and mainstream car makers seek to make electric cars the mainstream.
"The regulators and some OEMs [manufacturers] push it so much that the narrative has changed. They're pushing stuff on us that we don't want, so people get a little bit repulsed by it, this whole forced application.

at what point, which i don't think we would have reached with ICE but with electric we will - at what point will we just not longer be able to get the wheels to grip on the tarmac no matter how big and fancy they are... it will be so fast it just wont have the ability to have traction at all.
