The new G80 sedan has been unveiled./

Genesis G80

Genesis unveiled the all-new G80 to online audiences via a series of design renderings. The all-new Genesis G80 is the third-generation model which leads Genesis in the luxury market as a mid-sized, executive luxury sedan.

"The Genesis design DNA begins from the logo itself," said Luc Donckerwolke, Executive Vice President, Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group. "The crest of the logo becomes the Crest Grille and the two lines of the wings become the Quadlamps. In other words, the design starts with the brand, and design is the brand."

The "Athletic Elegance" design language allows variations in design interpretations by enabling a carefully-considered balance between the two opposing characteristics, Athleticism and Elegance. The all-new Genesis G80 is the core of the Genesis model line-up and offers a unique interpretation of the midsize luxury sedan.

In particular, the Crest Grille, and the two lines of the Quadlamps circumventing all sides of the vehicle are signature design elements of the brand, first introduced in the GV80 and now in the all-new G80.

Hyundai's Genesis presents its latest answer to the Mercedes E-Class

Hyundai’s premium division Genesis has released the first pictures of its third-generation G80 sedan, which gives the South Korean brand a fresh contender in the cut-throat premium mid-size sedan game where the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class rule the roost.

With its crest-like grille and horizontally stacked twin headlights, it’s a natural continuation of the styling language that we saw on the GV80 SUV when it was revealed earlier this year, albeit in a sleeker format complete with a fastback tail that reminds us of the Audi A7.

The new G80 is set to go on sale in Korea in March, with other select world markets to follow, although at this stage there are no plans to introduce the brand to South Africa.

The new G80 is built on an all-new platform, and will also receive fresh engines and advanced driver assist technologies, although those details are still under wraps for now.

However, it’s a logical assumption that the engine range will mirror the GV80 which, depending on the market, offers a choice between two petrol units, in the form of a 2.5 litre turbo and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo with 280kW, and a 3-litre turbodiesel with 205kW.

The 2021 Genesis G80 Is ****ing Gorgeous

The 2021 Genesis G80 just got a big upgrade, overhauling the exterior and interior of the brand’s first-ever car into something that’s really, really pretty.

Back in 2016, Hyundai sold a car called the Genesis—a luxury flagship sedan at the top of the Korean automaker’s lineup. Before that, the Genesis was a two-door sports car. But in the last four years, Genesis has become its own company, and now things have come full circle.

Hyundai's Genesis reveals striking new G80, to rival E-Class

Hyundai’s Genesis brand has pulled the covers off its third-generation G80 executive sedan, and this one looks to be a more compelling rival to the E-Class and 5 Series.

For starters, it’s somewhat more interesting to look at than its relatively conservative forebears, thanks to a low-slung, fastback body as well as striking new design features like the double-decker headlights and taillights, and a large ‘shield’ grille.

The new saloon is also 125kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to more extensive use of aluminium for the body panels.

Genesis has announced three engines, although what’s available will depend on the market in question. The petrol-powered line-up includes a 223kW/421Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol as well as a 3.5-litre V6 turbopetrol with 279kW and 520Nm. There’s also a diesel option in the form of a 2.2-litre unit with 154kW and 441Nm.

To ensure the cushy ride that one expects in this neck of the automotive woods, the G80 has an electronically controlled suspension system that uses a front camera to predict the road surface ahead and adjust the settings accordingly.

The cabin follows the modern dual-screen trend with a 31.2cm digital instrument cluster and 36.8cm central screen, and there’s also a head-up display.

Genesis Electrified G80

The Electrified G80 is Genesis' first EV model, presenting a new standard for electric sedans. It builds on the heritage of the G80 with its perfect balance of Athletic Elegance, while offering customers an alternative electric powertrain, using the latest technologies to deliver high levels of performance and convenience.

G80, which sits at the core of the Genesis sedan lineup, represents the perfect balance of Athletic Elegance and offers a sophisticated driving experience. The Electrified G80 not only boasts the kind of smooth and stable driving experience that only an electric vehicle can provide, but also offers powerful and dynamic performance.

The Electrified G80 delivers exceptional range and convenience for customers. Based on the NEDC standard, the estimated maximum range per charge is more than 500km (Based on the Korean EV certification system, the company estimated number is 427 km. Range may vary based on region.). 350kW rapid charging enables the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

The Electrified G80 comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), creating powerful performance. This allows customers to enjoy dynamic driving, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph just in 4.9 seconds (based on results from Genesis R&D Center testing in sport mode).

New Genesis Electrified G80: EV saloon arrives with luxury focus

Europe-bound premium marque unwraps its first electric car, which majors on refinement

Hyundai Motor Group's nascent luxury brand, Genesis, has revealed an electric version of its flagship G80 saloon.

Shown at the Shanghai motor show ahead of a global launch later this year, the Electrified G80 is the brand's first EV. It will go on sale alongside the conventionally fuelled G80, the GV70 crossover and the GV80 large SUV.

It's yet to be confirmed whether the Electrified G80 will be among the models that Genesis will initially offer when it launches in Europe, but further details of the brand's global line-up are expected in the coming months.

The saloon is visually identical to the standard G80, revealed a year ago, save for the addition of a closed-off grille and bespoke front bumper. It maintains the same premium focus inside, too, with a widescreen infotainment display dominating the dashboard, minimalistic control panel and heavy use of leather.

The twin-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain offers performance on a par with the new bespoke EVs from Genesis' sibling brands, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

Headline features include an 800V charging system allowing for charge speeds of up to 350kW, a 'vehicle to load' (V2L) external device-charging function and a disconnecting actuator system that switches between two- and four-wheel-drive as needed for maximum efficiency.
