2021 Genesis G80

Genesis has updated the Electrified G80 with a bigger battery and more legroom

All the usual facelift fare, but with a new battery and extended wheelbase thrown in for good measure

Surprise! The Genesis Electrified G80 still exists. Yep, the all-electric saloon that you’d definitely forgotten about is still on sale here in the UK, and it’s now been given a proper facelift in its home market of Korea. Expect the same changes to arrive on our shores sometime next year.

Perhaps the biggest of those changes is the fact the Electrified G80 is now, well… bigger. Genesis has added 130mm into the wheelbase over the previous car, meaning there’s 83mm more legroom in the rear seats and 20mm more headroom back there. Genesis has also added its Chauffeur Mode for the first time in an EV, which allows for smoother acceleration and braking, plus a more comfortable suspension setting for rear seat passengers.

Your chauffeur will be able to drive you further too, because the facelifted Electrified G80 (let’s just call it the E G80 from now on) also gets a new 94.5kWh battery. That results in a range of 475km (295 miles) by the Korean EV certification standards, but given the current car has an 87.2kWh battery and scores 323 miles of range on the WLTP test, expect this one to do even better when it finally arrives in Europe. Expect the same twin-motor powertrain with 365bhp too.

There’s upgraded front and rear suspension bushings to make things more comfortable for everyone inside, plus you get four-wheel steering and there’s still adaptive suspension that scans the road ahead to improve the ride quality.

Korean brand reinvents luxury electric saloon to distinguish it from ICE sibling; will arrive in UK next year

Genesis has given its Electrified G80 saloon a hefty update by extending its wheelbase, adding a larger battery and refreshing its interior.

The updated model will arrive in the UK, and other global markets, next year, after first launching in the brand’s home market of Korea

The first-generation electric saloon arrived in 2021, spawned from the petrol-powered G80, itself Genesis’ best selling model globally, although it has never matched its sibling’s sales.

The Korean brand has, therefore, looked to distinguish the pair, positioning the EV as more of a limo. To do this, it has stretched it by 130mm to 3140mm, resulting in rear passengers getting an extra 83mm of legroom and 20mm more headroom.

Passenger comfort has also been increased, thanks to upgraded front and rear suspension bushings that reduce road vibrations and maintain driving stability.

The new 323-mile Genesis Electrified G80 is coming to the UK next month

Dual-motor limo will arrive with a mighty but silent 365bhp punch

Want your slice of luxury automotive cake with left-field sprinkles? Genesis’ new and updated Electrified G80 - revamped for the Korean market last winter - is set to make its way to the UK in June. Silently, of course.

Because the G80 is - as the name literally points out - electrified, producing 365bhp and 516lb ft from its dual-motor, AWD powertrain. Expect 0-62mph in 4.9s. And, via its rather large 94.5kWh battery, up to 323 miles of clean green driving. Rear-wheel steering is available as an option if you’re happy to part with a few more shillings.

The plush new Electrified G80 is 130mm bigger than the last one to make things even more spacious for passengers. And luxurious. There's a generous amount of leather in there, a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, behind which sits a massive 27in panoramic screen that encompasses both the driving information and entertainment.
Other highlights include a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and a built-in antibacterial steriliser system within the front armrest, because of course there is.
