2021 Salary increase / bonus

"Increase" I remind my managers every year that I haven't had an "increase" since I rejoined the company, the handful of % we might get every year is a cost of living adjustment, which we haven't had any for nearly two years. We all took a pay cut last year but did receive some TERS payments, I got a small bonus at the end of last year and we wait to hear our fate at the end of this year.

4.5% salary adjustment in January and we all got a bonus although I haven't calculated what it is but I do know the R value.

5% increase, 100k bonus.

I count myself very lucky, our company is going flat out during all these lockdowns. Some friends have been far less fortunate with destroyed businesses and reduced salaries.

100k bonus

If I get any kind of bonus, it is 100% performance of company and personal achievements. So, a bonus is never guaranteed, as it should be. If I do not achieve, nada. And it only comes after the company declares its results in the new year. Never bank on it. If it happens, bonus!

Same here with me. My dept can over achieve, but if the rest of the company falls flat, then nothing for me as well.

2021 was the first year in recent memory where I didn't get any significant form of "incentive" (bonus or other) type income and this placed a major strain on balancing my budget for the year with the bonus usually funding holidays, home maintenance, <insert any other non-recurring expense> and this meant that I had to use up some savings to fill this gap. No increase either.

2022 should be better though

So my company went through a restructuring in 2021 - With a 4 out of possible 5 Performance Evaluation (Consulting was a bit down as lockdowns happened)- 1% Increase.

Received and offer for same position at another company, without PM + addition benefits + Car for 18% Increase in Base Salary.

Signed the contract just before we closed on Christmas day.

Now to finish off 2 current project's outstanding items, and hand over.

Scary but exiting times.

Five-digit increase with the caveat that my bonus will be 50% of salary instead of 100%. Negotiated increase as is the norm with small businesses that I've been involved with.

Bonuses are paid in the month of birthday instead of December.

Worked until 24 December and still had to put in some extra time after closing - we were that busy at the end of the year.

as a Rule I never expect Bonuses, even if its in the contract,
if you get nice surprise, if not, oh well glad to have a job nonetheless.
You like being taken advantage of?

If I was your employer and I read this knowing who you were, I would prepare a fruit basket as a bonus just for you...

no actually, owed money for months now
get told excuses and lies literally every months, why its not there. seething with anger about it, but what exactly can you do?

and what is the alternative, Employers have you over a barrel,
then know there is a ready market out there, can do whatever they like and get away with it, probably costs them less anyway.
to just fire and hire new staff,

I mean its all about maximizing the bottom line for them, and thats all they ACTUALLY care about,

so I'm of the opinion, you take what you can get, and say thank you for even that,
as everybody knows the alternatives.

No one can judge even if they walked a mile in your shoes. I worked for a small "cc" some years back. I left only to find they've been skipping on provident fund payments. It wasn't much as I was only an intern for about 2 years.

It would be in your own interest to check the basics whether they paying the fundamentals.

agree with you 100% but even if you do "discover" something
what exactly can you do about it? you complain, get victimized, and then they make your life difficult and then bye bye, dont let the door hit you on your way out.

with 34% unemployment and people with masters degrees out there that unemployed, to get something, anything, is a blessing in and of itself,
you get your usual salary, it comes on the 25th, you say thank you god I have a job,

you dont like the screwing over of certain things, but its not within your power to do anything, you complain loudly and often, but what changes?

so again, that's my question what can the average joe do about how they are being screwed over, not much really.
there 100 people waiting in a queue to replace you,

Perhaps if they got skills that are in demand?
