Hyundai's luxury arm showed off four performance concept vehicles ahead of the 2024 New York International Auto Show
Genesis is hitting the ground running ahead of the New York International Auto Show with the presentation of not one, not two, not three, but four very orange concept cars, and some of them aren’t very “concept car” at all. These four cars are previewing a new high-performance production car lineup from Genesis called, as its extremely orange paint would suggest, “Magma.”
In reality, only one of the Magma cars I saw at Genesis’ event is actually a brand new reveal, the very close-to-production all-electric GV60 crossover. There is also the G80 Magma sedan, which was shown a few months ago in the Middle East and will be sold there in limited numbers, and the GV80 Magma Coupe concept, which was unveiled last year (and we’ve already seen the production version in non-Magma form). Then there’s the most outlandish orange car of the bunch, the X Gran Berlinetta concept, which you can play in Gran Turismo 7 right now on your PlayStation 5.

The hot Genesis GV60 Magma will enter production next year
Genesis is launching its Magma performance line with its version of the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
Genesis has announced that the GV60 Magma Concept – essentially its take on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT – will make production, with sales set to start in Korea in the third quarter of next year and Europe in the fourth quarter.
No official figures have been released yet, but we do know the production GV60 Magma will feature ‘enhanced battery and motor technology’ and ‘exclusive chassis and suspension components’ over the standard car and that it should look very similar to the lower, wider and bewinged concept car.
“We’re looking for a new unique combination of the Korean premium feeling – which is quite unique and special – and then European driving dynamics,” said vehicle development boss Tyrone Johnson as the GV60 Magma concept made its debut at Goodwood. “We don’t want to speak about numbers because numbers are not the most important thing. Having said that, Magma cars will not be slow cars."

The Genesis GV60 has been updated with a sportier look and reworked interior technology.
The most prominent changes come on the exterior of the electric SUV. Up front, the vents around the lower grille area have been made more prominent, and the headlights use a new micro-lens array construction. The wheel arches and skirting are now finished in the car’s body colour, rather than the grey that is used on the outgoing model.
Inside, the new GV60 gets a revised display screen, doing away with the prominent bezel that previously divided its infotainment and instrument sections. The screen is also thinner than before, bringing a sleeker look.

Genesis has facelifted its charming mid-sized all-electric GV60 SUV for the first time since its 2021 launch with a small, erm, facelift. Plus minor tweaks inside.
The redesigned front bumper features a more three-dimensional look, fancy headlamps with Micro Lens Array technology (nope, us neither), and fresh 21in five-spoke shoes.
A reworked grille now sits lower than before and has a straighter shape to it, flanked by boomerang-like air vents out wide to give the nose a more chiselled appearance.
The interior still looks contemporary and stylish, and Genesis has topped it up with an updated 27in infotainment screen (same size as before) repositioned to give the cabin a more spacious feel. There’s a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel in there too.
