Hi All

Line is with Afrihost.

Have had zero problems since getting VDSL, been rock solid at 20meg.

Zyxel VGM1312 reports it is syncing fine at 20, (as always) but am getting 10meg speeds.

Line is with Afrihost, have tested 3 ISP's ... AH, VOX and WA.

All max out at 10. Speedtest and NNTP.

Afrihost control panel shows "10 meg line sync".

Any ideas ?

Seems likes somebody at AH has screwed the pooch:

The Afrihost portal doesn't register anything over 10Mbps

Telkom can control the sync on their side. So even though your router says you are syncing at 20meg, they can still control sync to 10meg.

When I moved into my new place I ordered 2meg. After a week I ordered 20meg vdsl. Eventually my sync changed from 2 meg to 15 meg, but I only got 2meg throughput.

When I called Telkom they told me it was still syncing at 2meg even though my router said 15meg.
Think you will have to call Afrihost and get them to fix the sync.

On the phone with AH support ...

Was fine last night ... guess someone flicked the wrong switch this morning :wtf:

Still getting 2meg upload .... just download is halved.

Edit: they tried recreating the port etc. Still no go. Maxing out at 10 on 20meg sync.

Oh the joys of random cr@p like this.

Hi

I see you've dropped AfriMan and myself a PM with the deets already, I'll take a look from there :)

Ah OP mine is the exact same capped account AH I get 10mb speeds. Vox is max 10mb on bolt-on but when I try with axxess & webafrica I get full 20

Have you tried a cable connection to the router (wifi off), or are you trying over wifi?

We're on VDSL 40Mbps, but over wifi we get 10Mbps during the day (I think it has to do with interference). Plug in the cable and it runs full speed.

Everything was full speed ahead last night on VOX (fatpipe) and AH.

NNTP maxing out at 2.2Mbps and Speedtest around 17 from PE to CT, both consistent with my 20meg VDSL line.

This morning - everything is half. NNTP 1.1, speed tests flatlining at 9.6ish - hitting some sort of ceiling.

Madness I tell you :wtf:

Grab yourself an app to check for other wireless signals and what channels they're broadcasting on. Find yourself a clean channel and change it on the router to said channel.

Also ensure that your wireless signal is decent and the sync rate on wireless is decent. In Windows you can check this in the network and sharing centre by clicking on the connection itself. It will open up a status page which will show the speed of the connection. If you have multiple wireless clients the sync rates will be split up accordingly and you'll need a decent wireless AP setup to achieve the full 40Mbps on all wireless clients, if this is the case. But it's a relatively easy fix to be had.

Thanks.

Have tried on both wired and wireless (Asus N66U N900 router on 2.4 and 5ghz).

No difference - hitting a 10meg wall of some sorts, even though it's syncing fine at 20.

Afriguys are looking into it.

You may simply need a port reset for the line to sync properly again. Either that or Telkom saw low stats and pushed your profile down. Was this on VDSL or ADSL2+?

Your first port of call when a line isn't syncing properly is to get a port reset, especially if your router stats indicate the correct sync rate, as it may need to be recreated on Telkom's side to allow the new profile to take affect.
