And now?

Seems two hours late but there is the kek speed

I wonder if this might be related. Seems their fibre network is also slow at night. There are a couple of thoughts and suggestions in that thread.

Edit: I see you already posted in it

A few times now the tower I'm connected to has completely died. I know this because signal goes from 100% to 0% :( Problem is, I'm not exactly spoilt for choice being surrounded by trees and living on the outskirts of Pretoria... Only really 1 tower I can connect to with decent signal.

I wonder if this is a greater Gauteng issue. In Pretoria far east, my speeds are 100mbps till around 19:30 every day. Not as bad, but I go from 100mbps throughout the day to about 15mbps. It may be congestion, but being on the farm lands, there isn't exactly an abundance of people killing a single tower.

My LTE dead while Fibre all good. Fibre consistently 90mbps

Even my vodacom internet is virtually dead when travelling in Faerie Glen or Menlyn area.

It's very recent 2 to 3 weeks. As I said I have been on lte almost 6 years to ck solid speeds everyone needs to log a compliant to get this sorted at 10210

Its 11pm let me run a test quickly

I am certain someone is flicking a switch 4-6 down all the way to 11 like clockwork now for the last 2/3 weeks :(

23:50 give or take a minute or two... This tells me one thing and that is the towers can't handle the demand I don't think an antenna will fix my day time problem.

I think there is more to it that just the tower congestion the fact that its this specific times is concerning if it was more irratic I would chalk it up to congestion

I think in my area specifically anything above 15Mbs down is essentially a unicorn.

Here is the thing, my signal strength will drop from 100% to 50%. This tells me the actual Telkom tower is being hit hard. See signal strength comes down to power draw. So essentially the RBS system draws X amount of power. That means for every device it loses a tiny bit of its total strength. When the congestion becomes high enough to consume most of its power output that is it basically. No matter how strong my antenna is it cannot makeup for the powerdraw from the other clients.

In short a bigger antenna will not solve this problem. It allows to boost a weak signal YES but an over populated tower remains over populated regardless. And remember from the RBS to the land line is a connection and that connection is shared with other towers, other consumers as well so all in it simply cannot provide a better speed due to infrastructure.

Now how do I know this is fact? Well I was underneath the Antenna when I did the test. So my line of sight literally cannot be better. My equipment cannot get closer. Thus I feel safe in saying that no matter what I buy "apart from fibre" my situation will not improve.

But for the most part I can plan around the times. I know when my tower goes down I know when it is back to full strength I just have to plan my day accordingly.

Will a dual-band LTE router improve my over all speed. YES but only when the congestion is low. Otherwise it will not.

Guys what is the network code that the telkom 2tb sims connect to ? I just want to check if I have signal for this deal

Aka Carrier code
