2TB Anytime data

Did some testing with w prepaid sim on the Smartbroadband tariff and the highest speeds I can get around here is 30 Mbps up and 14 Mbps down. Tested with a ZTE MF286c and Huawei E5572 and signal strength on both showed as 4 bars. So the speeds posted here seem insane.

All depends on time... :(

I just want them to sort out the issues now!

What modem do you use? What bands is it set to? Do you use an arial and if so witch? Please answer in 500 words or more.
Thanks
I'm using a B818 for Telkom. For this speed test, it was set to AUTO. While downloading it was on 2300, and automatically switched to 1800 for the upload. I do not use an antenna, the tower is about 800 m away. I've got my router on top of a cupboard, where I found I get the best speed. I've spent many hours days fiddling and finding the right spot. I don't always get these high speeds. Right this moment, the tower is offline, and I'm connected to something a bit further away and only getting 15 Mbps. Still works great, and is faster and cheaper than wireless providers in the area. No fixed-line services in the area, and I doubt we'll get any.

As much as I have had a great experience with Telkom LTE the last 5-6 years this speed issue of late is getting a bit much, my wife and I work from home and thankfully the day time isnt that much of an issue but at this rate im just going to sign up for this

So my Huawei 618-65 + Xpol antenna might be up for sale. Ill give it another week or two before moving ahead with fibre.

They installed fibre in our area last year and we have the box in the study ready to connect for a moment like this.

Lets see how it goes, as I so wanted to make this work!

Yep. If it wasn't for my 100mbps fibre (supposed to be 200mbps - a story for another day) which runs at 90mbps download on average; the LTE would be a disaster. Last night again with signal testing as excellent, less than 2mbps download! Can't watch videos.

If I had this option I would take it with both hands.

Yeah the only reason I changed so quickly from the uncapped deal to this was the month to month portion.

Good internet is no longer a luxury it's a necessity

The 2tb deal is likely the best value for money at this point. So that plus the stability you've had over the years, the move made sense.

Yeah... It's definitely no longer a luxury. If you derive an income using the internet, even more so. Even with the high speeds I get, I still have a backup. Currently that is the Vodacom 300gb deal. I load balance the two LTE connections, and failover in either direction. All streaming traffic gets sent to Telkom only.

With the new Metro prices it's a lot better, I remember you wanted to move over previously.
At least with fibre it's always stable :)

I 100% agree, I hope this works for you, I myself cannot get this at all so for now I am stuck with fighting the LTE providers. But tell you what as soon as I can I will be switching to fibre or pigeons as I think pigeons might be faster to send a 10Gb file especially when Telkom BLOCKS our FTP server in Jhb!!!!! bloody hell i wish i knew who made that choice.

We literally had to drive to Jhb today just to go fetch a thumb drive with a 10Gb file because we can't access our locally hosted FTP... Now we are stuck with a petrol bill, probibly a speed fine and an angry client... Thank you Telkom... Thank you...

Sounds like your company is in the dark ages. We stopped using FTP long ago. It's not exactly a secure protocol.

Curious if Telkom resolved the issues, its usually starting to act up by now.

If this holds up I wont move over to fibre but its still to early to talk :)

Not sure what is happening. If I was to speculate I would say because of stage 2 load-shedding many users may not be able to access the network leaving it open for the rest of us? But again I cannot say that it is the case or not.
