2TB Anytime data

That is odd. Can you send me a pm with your email address so I can double check if there is any issues with the order?
Out of interest why does Afrihost's 2TB Telkom LTE cost an additional R100pm? What comes that extra cost?

Or am I looking at the wrong offering?

Telkom sells the package at a base price very close to the retail value of their own offering but ISP's need to handle the billing and support for it themselves.

I believe the directors felt that as this price is viable to resell it without making a loss when clients require support and for billing related overheads.

So a lot of customers have problems with the service? And/or have billing issues?

I won't say this product specifically but in general there is a high number of support requests for Fixed LTE.

Can be slow speeds, how to setup a router, how to connect a smart tv, data balances, updating billing info etc.

From my perspective as customer the R100 extra is worth it because of:
  • No credit checks required.
  • Can pay via CC/Debit card with no need to have a debit order (Telkom only does debit orders)
  • No contract (Even the Telkom "month-to-month" seems to require a 12 month commitment)
  • Don't have to deal with Telkom and their billing department. I struggled for more than 2 years to have a landline cancelled after they forced it over to Fixed Line Lookalike service that didn't work. Promised myself I would never take an account from them again.
  • Ability to downgrade package if needed
  • Afrihost support is WAY more responsive. Friends and family using Afrihost are very happy with the service levels they get. Unlike Telkom where you really struggle to get anything done and are required to go into a physical store to actually force them to resolve issues. Being far from any Telkom store this is not an option for m.
  • Afrihost having someone who actually tried to assist on a SUNDAY!

Not really an issue.

Obviously -1 for the d/o.

My understanding is it's month to month.
Don't have to deal with Telkom and their billing department.
Never really been an issue for me. I've had more billing issues with other ISPs.

If it's month to month there's no need to downgrade.
Afrihost support is WAY more responsive.
On MyBB? Sure. IRL telkom has always promptly addressed any technical support issues.

Got no issue with that. Kudos.

All of the above though isn't going to get me to pay them an extra R100.

My MR600 from Takealot arrived, but it's in a Vodacom branded box. The listing said the item is open to all networks. Anyone have an idea if this will be network locked or running a custom firmware? Hate when 3rd party sellers do this ****.

If it doesn't work send it back? And if it does work let's see the speed results.

I can get internet access with the Telkom SIM, but can't even log in to the admin page of the router.

None of the options TP-Link provides seem to work.

Edit:
Managed to get to the admin page in the end.
The Vodacom version of the firmware has restricted all the essential options I would actually order this router for. You have no options to control the internet settings (change APN etc) which means you also don't have any way to change bands. And there's no way to update the firmware.

I will have to return it. Can't see why anyone would want a locked down version like this.

Speed test:
57.3/4.72 ping 23
50.2/4.81 ping 26

Pity takealot sells such rubbish.

I got a little Alcatel HH72 from Facebook market place a few months back. It's great. It's really small and I get around 80mbps through it. Plus it works well with my standby Huawei battery pack lasts about 2hours with the load shedding.

That's always an option if I can't source a real MR600. Does it show full signal details (SRQ, SRP) and support USSD commands?

Anyone know of a good omnidirectional antenna for indoor use? Looks like it's going to be quite a while before I can get my X-Pol 6 mounted. So a smaller indoor alternative would be great.

You should become a mini ISP for your neighbours. Now I understand why you opted not for fibre.
100% As I mentioned we topped out at 1 tb use during hard lock down so this is essentially "uncapped" for me at these wonderful speeds

I wonder if there will be any noticeable difference in speeds once my 220gb sim gets upgraded to the 2tb through AH.

I was using the R529 "uncapped" promo for many years before upgrading to the 2TB offer.

The R529 package worked through a 5 day power outage in the area, zero downtime but the now, the 2TB package doesn't make it through more than an hour to 90 minutes of load shedding before tapping out.

Wonder if the tower configuration has changed from the R529 to the 2TB?

I would imagine everything to be exactly the same as it was before.

Disappointing man!! A big incentive to upgrade was the performance during load shedding...
Exactly the same is happening to me now, router stays connected but no internet.
