2TB Anytime data

This post also suggests that some restrictions are now being implemented on the Afrihost Vodacom packages. His speeds still look good though ! According to the CI website, speeds may be reduced to 1Mbps after exceeding the FUP ! 😿😿😿

Cool Ideas FUP - 10Mbps = 200GB. 20Mbps = 300GB. 50Mbps = 450GB. 100Mbps = 600GB. Unlimited = 1000GB. After monthly FUP limit, speeds are changed to 1Mbps.

I would not do that as the new packages are limited to the speeds listed as when signing up, the people who first signed up have a different batch of sims without the sims being speed limited.

Also the FUP is far worse and will never match Telkoms amount of data
Thanks for this. I'll stick with Telkom, for now. Unfortunately there's no Telkom 5G coverage but I do have Vodacom 5G coverage, hence why the Cool Ideas 5G pacakages were appealing.

Grab yourself a poynting xpol 6 second hand outdoor antenna for around R600.

Zone in on your Telkom cell tower, does take abit of tinkering.

Band 40+40 (40mhz) with decent RSRP will give you between 120-150mbps Down 8mbps UP

Band 3+40 will give you 100-120 mbps down and 22-25 mbps up.

Telkoms routing is also way better and unrestricted APN.

I fell into the 5G trap and regretted it.

I'm heading back to my old Telkom set-up this month.

I assume those speeds are on LTE?

I could not get more than 20 Mbit/sec during the day on Telkom LTE. In the middle of the night I could get about 120 Mbit/sec.

All my test are done on LTE. Telkom performs much better when your RSRP, RSRQ and SNR values are good.

What do you mean by this ? Cause the package sold is a 50mb package but the earlier accounts haven't been speed restricted but mine is, I also haven't asked Cool Ideas yet

I ask because as far as I know it's still not speed limited and they even don't show the speeds of the package anymore just the FUP which they also don't enforce.

You're actually right it isn't limited so far I am getting 100mb down for some reason my Unifi router is limiting it to 50mb, think I forgot to change the config from the older Afrihost package as when maxing the connection latency was hitting 1000ms lol

I have good 5G coverage but my upload is like 12mb due to poor 4G coverage according to the router but this is my speeds from my Unifi router
I signed up a week ago if that makes any difference
Have you tested your speeds when the network is not busy i.e. late at night or early in the morning ? Maybe you could try to change one or more of the 4G bands ?

Do you have high speed Vodacom Business 5G coverage as opposed to Mobile 5G coverage ?

Ignore the deleted post, I had smart queues enabled to cap my speed, my speed is 270mbps now but upload is like 8mb unfortunately

Had to cap the connection speed on the previous Afrihost package to get stability but forgot it was on

Thanks @Jake45 and @cavedog I would have been stuck on 50mb if you hadn’t reminded me !

It's that kind of thing that will spoil it for all of us that's maybe going 20-30% over our caps.
That's another thing if it starts to affect the network performance then Vodacom will put restrictions on this package, I do think they should cap it at 1TB to prevent abuse and tbh 4TB is 100% Abuse on a 4G/5G Service
