2TB Anytime data

Very impressive speeds ! You must just use the Data Usage menu in the G5TS to estimate your usage. What 4G and 5G bands are you using ?

Looks like same bands as you:

I've been testing it for a couple days now by running Twitch streams on another screen. There has been a few hiccups where there was no connection for a minute or so over the last 2 days. Happened maybe 3-4 times. Otherwise it's blazing fast and working perfectly. I just downloaded Path of Exile 2 as another test. 120GB downloaded in about an hour. On Telkom that used to take me about 20hrs.

Edit: I spoke too soon. Seems like there is heavy congestion or something in my area. For the last 30 mins, from just before 8pm, I can barely connect to anything. No streams working and MyBB pages not even loading. It wasn't anywhere this bad the previous two nights. Will have to test for another week. If it's this bad often then it's not going to be usable as a main connection. It was fine the entire day until now.

This was my main concern with the 5G connection. From my experience with Rain a few years ago, it's either on or off. No in-between. Max speeds or zero.

Edit2: Seems back to normal now about 40mins later. Hopefully that was a once off issue:

Edit3: I see there is a 5G feedback thread for Cool Ideas. Will post in there from now on if I have an issue.

@Forum Reader: Wow those are the best speeds that I have seen so far! Let us know if you are still having intermittent problems and how the service compares to the 2TB Telkom bundle.

How does your package perform on the bufferbloat test ?

Unfortunately I have been having problems in the evenings (with Cool Ideas 5G). Every day like clockwork (Friday/Saturday/Sunday), around 7:45pm to 9:00pm. Streams and pages stop loading/working. Sometimes for a few minutes at at time, then works for a minute, then off again for a few minutes. During that time I'm getting 600Mbps or 0Mbps. Other than that it's perfect in the other hours. Will test for a couple more days and then check if anything can be done about it in the Cool Ideas 5G thread.

Will do the test when I get home.

@Forum Reader: Very frustrating. Have you tried moving the router to a different position ? Does the light on the front of the router stay white or change to blue or red during the outages ?

Is the router firmware up to date (System --> Device Information) ?
Software Version: BD_ARBZAG5TSV1.0.0B03
Hardware Version: G5TSHW_1.0.0

You could also try to change the 4G bands from the Developer Options Menu. You could try combinations of 1, 3, 8 and 41 etc.

Here's my bufferbloat test:

On the software version, it seems like I'm behind yours. However I checked for updates and it said there is nothing available:

Regarding the Band Locks, everything is currently checked. I haven't changed anything. Will try changing the bands when the problems happen in the evening.

EDIT: Had zero issues last night and I monitored from 6pm to 11pm. Didn't even drop connection for a second. Not sure what happened on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Didn't make any changes to my setup.

I'm happy with the Cool Ideas internet so I've cancelled my 2TB contract. Was a lot easier to cancel compared to cancelling a Vodacom contract.

Edit: The Cool Ideas night time issues was solved by them bypassing some IP on the route which was causing issues for everyone. The support here on the forum was very helpful in fixing it.

@Swingblade: It should be under the System --> Developer Options Menu. You need to enter your router password to access the Band Lock Menu. You should be able to choose two 4G bands from B1, B3, B8, B41 etc. Usually only one 5G band is available - N41 - but some customers can use N78. The available bands and bandwidths depend on the tower/location.

After each selection the router should reboot and you should see the new selection under the System --> Device Information Menu.

Holy hell, first speedtest. I thought it would be capped at 50Mbps:

I've never had speeds anywhere close to these ever. My previous best speeds with Vodacom/Telkom were not even a 10th of these.

Not sure where/how to check how close I am to the 450GB FUP though. Can't see anything in the coolzone client area (website).

This one. There was a special last month as well where you got the router for R750:

No, I've ended Telkom a few days ago. Moved to a Coolideas 5G package. R359pm for 50Mbps and 450GB FUP (however there is no speed cap currently). The tests above was for that package. With Telkom I used to only get around 20Mbps.

@Forum Reader thank you so much. Another question do you know how to turn off 5G completely and only run 4G?

Thanks again

Not sure. If you're talking about Coolideas, maybe post in their thread.

Just got notification of price increases across all products.
The 2TB will increase from R699 currently to R754.92 (8% increase)

The cool ideas package trumps this 2Tb deal. No comparison.
How???
Telkom 2TB is R699 and up to 2TB of data. Even works on 5G now if you have coverage.
Never used all the data once since I have the thing.
Only sad part is you can no longer have it as a MultiSIM.
(Yes some of us have it as a MultiSIM)
