True, you cant expect results for the first couple of months in EVE. As Jase said, it takes time, after at least 3 months you'll see progress. WoW on the other hand is reward after reward (leveling/getting all the different shades of purple)

Meh, I've been playing a little over a week now on EVE and I'm not in a Battlecruiser or anything but I'm still having tons of fun in my Rifter and I'm busy looking at getting a second account.

It's quite possible to enjoy the game even from early on when your skills are low.

the reason im still wow playing is probably mainly due to the characters in my guild. We are a social raiding guild. It doesnt bother us that someone will clear Uldar in 1 week of it being released. We log and have a laugh. We are a casual guild who has cleared 25man Naxx and have it on farm. We have killed Malygos, but its still a tough fight for us. We have cleared OS with 1 drake up. Its still rough and are goals are to farm Malygos and clear OS with more drakes up. We are pleased that we arent sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for more content. We arent bored we take our time. I relieved im not one of these uber guilds who clear everything in a matter of weeks. I feel they have lost the point of it all. Have fun with your mates :)

I'm also rather suprised by this thread. Normally if someone said that AoC/War did this or that they would get some harsh comments, but this 3.1 thread has completely been derailed by an Eve discussion, yet we are not seeing any flaming :S

Is this a sign?

Trix, i think its because eve isnt like the other MMO's, its a completey different game. I mean AoC,War,Wow are the same thing in essence and all the players compare whats better in which game and so the flaming begins. Its nice not to see people biting each others heads off for a change :p

EDIT: EVE is older than WoW

EVE: May 2003

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to the class changes. Since I almost have 1 of every class, it will be interesting :)

If only WoW was a level 1 - unlimmited game with various things to look forward too, and unlimmited dungeons then it would have been fun.

That game is called Diablo, and there's a number 3 coming.

Yeah, I can't wait either. :p

Aaaanyway. EvE is great. The reason there's no flaming is that unlike AoC and WAR, it's actually an old, established and above all polished title. You can't really compare it to WoW either, the two are nothing alike.

That said, I got roped into starting up a WoW guild with a mate yesterday, again. It's full of sub-80 noobs so we're going to spend a lot of time helping the noobs level and gear before we even start Naxx, let alone Maly, Sarth and eventually Ulduar. For us, current raid content and 3.1 is probably going to mean abit more life in WoW. At this stage i'm chasing nothing in WoW, but playing it a fair amount again because, well, i'm part of a journey, still, I'm progressing as opposed to having hit the brick wall. I'll definately keep playing EvE, it's a delicious game, and the new casual WoW does mean having to spend a lot less time in it to get anywhere. I can log in and run a raid and do some instances here and there, once or twice a week and the rest of the time, work towards buying that cruiser in EvE. All the while waiting for Champions Online.

whichever company brings out the next mmo is gonna make a killing.

If WAR was only released now instead of being rushed. I think it would have killed WoW now. But EVE seems to be the firm favourite right now amoungst allot of players. Check the interwebz for yourself

I think EVE is getting a massive player injection now.

Bleh, I dunno how good a thing that is. Right now EVE has an average player age of 27, which is fine by me.
Lets hope the steep learning curve puts off all the little wannabe's.

I'm guessing the first time they lose a ship and realise the consequences of death they'll lose interest.

Nah. In it's current state, it's probably worse than back in the days of 1.0.6. 3.1 horribly unbalanced the game (aoe damage is completely out of whack) and whatever changes they made to the engine actually slowed it down more. It's still full of bugs, and Tier 4 is still crap and boring. WAR is going to need a lot more time and a lot more love from the developers before it comes close to being able to topple WoW. And yeah, this is coming from someone who, as people here can probably attest, was once a total WAR fanboy.

EvE is enjoying a surge in popularity because of timing, straight and simple. They launched Apocrypha and started putting boxes on shelves at exactly the time WoW raiders are experiencing a content burnout and a lack of new challenges. Suddenly we're all looking around trying to find something that offers a real challenge, a real depth and a real, worthwhile investment. EvE offers all these things. It's not trying to be a nice, friendly family game, and that's what a lot of WoW vets who've cut their teeth on the hardest content WoW has to offer and are left wanting much, much more, are now looking for.

I think EvE is going to see a lot of interest, but much of it won't be able to vault that learning curve. It's not even that EvE is all that hard. It's just radically different and requires a complete rethink and relearn process. Most people are looking for WoW 2.0 and they won't find it in EvE. But those who're willing to put slug it out will probably find an incredibly vast and rich universe to explore.

True, but if they held out for 6 months and used that time to polish it I think it would have been grand. They rushed it and now they have to handle the day to day workings of the game and also sit with the problems they need to address. But o well, like mentioned earlier whoever hits now with a big and nice MMO will take it. It's all about timing now I think.
