the guy asked what to spend 30k on just for a box and most people bitch and whine about how stupid that idea is as if it's their money to begin with, get real..

oh and to the guy who said ssd runs slower when in raid . . . . LOL

Get real huh? Indeed..

Well um boohoo, it's a forum on the freaking internet, and apparently a fair number of people which to express their opinion! Why don't you get real?

Control much?

Oh and technically you're the only one bitching, so how's that for irony..

look, im not gonna quote anyone or go off topic here. point im trying to make is that nowhere in the OP was there anything ever mentioned of wanting to save money.

everone is entitled to their opinion, i won't argue with you on that BUT if the guy wants to spend 30k on a pc and asks for advice on what parts to get then why would he want to read through a myriad of posts telling him that he will be stupid if he does so . . .

;)

Yes I understand your point, however, too bad! ;)
How awful of us, trying to prevent him throwing money down the toilet while getting 95-99% the same performance!! We should be shot! ..or at the very least rapped over the knuckles for such devious, insidious and ill-meaning suggestions!

TRAVESTI!

It's all reletive at the end of the day :p R30k would be alot of money for someone earning R15k per month, but a drop in the bucket for someone earning R300k per month. That being said, it's one thing to tell someone it might be inefficient spending that kind of money on a box, but it's definately not neccessary for some of the name calling that's been going on. "Stupid" would have been going out and dropping a wad of cash on a machine without doing a bit of research first, which the OP obviously isn't doing.

If you add up some of the suggested costs such as SSD drives, proper UPS and high-end GFX cards, R30k doesn't seem all that much all of a sudden.

One thing I would suggest is not going the SLI route seeing as lots of games don't even support it and would benefit more from a higher-end single PCB solution, which can always be upgraded later with the difference.

I'm going to go ahead and say whichever way you put it, R30k on a pc that will perform 95%-99% the same as something 1/2-2/3 the price is a waste of money in any reasonably thinking person's book. Notice I'm not telling him not to do it, but we do have a right to advise against a route which clearly a lot of people agree is unwise.
An opinion that a decision is stupid is very different to directly calling someone stupid (if someone called him stupid then I'm not referring to that)

Man, this is one of the most uppity forums I've come across, perhaps it's got something to do with SA people generally being so conservative, I dunno..
One has to CAREfully screen every post lest it offends the delicate sensitivities of the masses. Mucho boring.
