Hi Guys, well with MW2 and SC2 dropping soon, im considering going big and buying a pc for around 30k, what sort of specs am I looking at?

Well the i7 Exteme 975 CPU will set you back 12k, Mobo X58 Exteme about 5k, GTX295 about 6.2k, DDR3 tri Channel 2X3 @ 1333 about R1500. Then u just need a good PSU and case + HDD... You could do it for 30K. Lucky Bas...d ;)

Yeah and then you can go with a pair of SSD's in Raid 0 , also go 3x2gb 2000 ddr3 dominator GT's then if you are looking at high end.

I was running quad sli (2 x gtx 295's) up to about a week ago.

So that's also an option - but new ATI high end card coming out by november in time for mw2.

PSU - you can go with anything between 850w-1250w modular.

+1 lucky Bas...d
As it goes with PC, the new i9's is around the corner, if you are able to wait(which is very hard sometimes), probably get that. Also, do not forget the SDD drives!!!!!

take you time and build an energy efficient pc. get the baby i7 and choose quality components and a single graphics card to start. Buy the biggest monitor. 27'' even as this will outlive your box.

Dont forget decent cooling...for the cpu + case so maximizing its life span.

You can up the ram to 12gigs if you really want to and get like a couple 2 terabyte drives :P Or some raptor drives for the gaming and OS section.

I think going for the top top topend of everything would just be stupid unless you REALLY want it. Scale down a bit on the i7 and rather get a good SLI setup with the SSD's in raid.

/party pooper warning

The i7 Extreme (975) is a terrible choice.

The 920 is R3000, and the 975 R10 000. Depending on the benchmark you look at the 975 is around 30% faster then the 920. 300% increase in price for 30% increase in performance sounds like a crap deal.

Rather spend the extra R7k on faster disks or something (or just keep it and buy the 975 in 1 years time when its past the early adopter phase and the same price as the current 920.)

is the new skulltrail mobo's coming out soon guys?

i'd say 2 x 295 GTX's in SLI - this is a must.
definitly a corsair HX1000W PSU - it handles everything
definitly i7 with an X58 mobo
with DDR3 gaming ram - possibly 2000MHz if it's not too expensive...

the two GTX295's will handle everything, even if you don't drop 12k on a CPU.

remember, intel OVERPRICE their top of the range CPU's by QUITE a bit:
if you don't take anything else from me take this:
12k for 2 x 295 GTX's in SLI + cheaper CPU will be WAAAAAAAY better than a 12k CPU and a single 295GTX.

for mobo i'd def. go for ASUS or Gigabyte - probably an asus as first choice.

definitly get 2 x 1.5TB drives, and an SDD

i'm sure you could do it - i'll get make you a propper quote later on today, this setup must be discussed thoroughly.....

I always look at my spend over time... for 30k I would build a 15-20k box... then use the other ten to keep it semi cutting edge for 2 years

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! Whats the big deal with SSD's? Im thinking about getting 3 tbs in there rather, for about R3k...

Also, where would you guys reccommend I buy all this crap? :D

ps: the case i really want is the Coolermaster Cosmos, its 3k i know, but daaang its hawwwt.

Agree in the 12k for a processor being a waste, get the smaller CPU, some water cooling and OC the hell out of it! You can spend 20K on tri SLI (again waste!).

Important things are good case for airflow or water cooling, PSU minimum 800w, If you go air cooling a good cooler (CM V8, V10 or Arctic, Thermalright etc..). The SSD's will make a huge difference!

@keeper got good advice!

CM making really good stuff, as for buyin, shop around. I hardley ever buy from just one place!

Case - there is def much better than the Cosmos - I say go aluminium(makes a world of difference)

PSU - HX1000w (personally I am using an 850w ikonik and managed to run quad sli without any hassles)

Mobo - Rampage 2 Extreme/Gigabyte x58/Asus P6t Dexl v2/Asus Palm OC

CPU - i7 920 as a starter(from experience of trawling the classifieds regularly -they experience the less of a price drop - better resale value when you are prepared to upgrade to the higher end ones.)

Cooler/HSF - True Black - no contest

RAM - 3x2 GB DDR3 - minimum (1866-2000)

GPU - 1x GTX 295 - I would say for the same reason as the cpu - new gpu's being launched by both sides in the next 3-6 months - hold out otherwise you gonna struggle selling your 295 for decent cash.

HDD - 1(or 2 in raid0) x SSD (pure OS drive) 1 x 1tb/1.5tb for storage

SSD drives have virually no access times which make them rediculously fast. RAID them and you get good transfer rates too. Best idea would be to get 2 SSD drives for your OS and some apps/games and a bigger traditional hard disk for storage capacity. We are already seeign big price drops on SSD drives which makes it viable.

Actually ssds show no performance increase in raid. Some actually get slower. Get like a 256gig ssd.

:confused::confused::confused:

Non RAID vs RAID 0...

And yet another:
