360 hard drive.

Is it my fault that can't look beyond the initial cheap price of picking up an Arcade?

There is a 2nd hand market where you can pick up a good deal on HDDs compared to buying it new.

Also, mentioning a PS3 is a moot point as I stated he's already a PS3 owner and upgrading the HDD yourself doesn't help the situation of being HDD-less with the Xbox 360 Arcade he has the situation with presently ... understand now

Sheesh!

Why still so sensitive when someone rightly so post factual information in a related thread. How the F must everyone else know what every other member own! SHEESH! back. I understood from the start, do not take it upon you to tell people what they should not post what they want or see fit as in your eyes it's a moot point.

Actually the original poster was fueling a flame war.

I only knew Saf had a PS3 as I know him personally ... point taken and case closed

He was looking for a Hard drive  Is that fueling a flame war?

Where the hell do we buy these things? I bought an arcade unit. Put some saves and the dash update on the 256 memory unit, now the dash wont update any more, complaining about disk space.

No sweat, Enjoy!

(Un-Official) PS3 Laser Replacement Manual & Video
Uhm ... ok

My lenses are sourced from Hong Kong and my optical blocks from Australia from reputable suppliers. No problems whatsoever in all the time I've replaced them.

There are places in China where you can get lenses where the business e-mail is [email protected] as an example. Obviously dodgy but allot of people go for it as they're dirt cheap (R300-400 excl. shipping). Nothing worse than using a clone product which dies after 2 weeks.

In terms of the procedure on the link it's spot on for replacing a lens. My price point is so that I can make a small profit due to the high cost price on the original replacement part.

I don't discourage DIY but at least I offer a warranty and the experience of having done it several times perfectly!

Ndusimo and Dolby seem to get by fine.

Eh?

Anyway - thought you'd know what you'd be doing with the cosnole before you bought it :/ If it cannot do what you want ; don't buy it.

I knew upfront the criteria and narrowd it down :

I'll need a HDD for sure
I do not care about BR
I do not care about media streaming
I do not need wireless
I do need HDMI port though though

Once I decided, I went out and bought.

Could've sworn you mentioned you were happy with not having a HDD in another thread. In anycase, I'd rather have all those options for another R200 than not.

I've got a HDD ... always had?

Perhaps what I said was that there are some people out there who would be interested in a no frills game machine. I'm not one - but that's in my criteria.

R200.00 more? Yes, I'd take those extra's. R1,000+ more (as has been the past 2 years) - I think I'll skip.

EDIT : How do you get a R200.00 difference? I see R3,699.00 with Forza 3 (R600.00) and PS3 slim at R3,799.00 ... effectivly a R700,00 difference. As I say, this was not always the case and the difference started at roughly R2,000.00 difference and worked itself down over 2 years.

xbox with HDD gives 2 options:
xbox arcade + separate HDD = R3500.
xbox elite = R3300.
PS3 slim = R3600.

Where do you get that pricing ... ?

I've checked a few places and majority seem to be R3800.00 - with the Xbox 360 and Forza and R3600.00.

Yes - the gap is closing pricewise, but even 6 months ago the gap was R1,000.00 or so. For someone who needs none of those extras (doubt I'm the only one), R1,000.00 can be spent elsewhere.

The pricing I gave was a 120GB vs 120GB.

Like I said earlier though, depends on the person. I've never used more than 20GB - so it's a waste for some to have annything larger

Not unless you connect an external HDD to it to watch BD rips.

In that case the PS3 is a little thin with space and a 120GB too?

Anyway - as I said it comes down to the individual person. I have a media streamer and audio streamer - so the HDD makes no difference to me, apart from save games.

I'm sure other uses connect the console straight to their PC which probably holds all their media anyway, so it's not on the console itself.

And lastly - you guys have told me there are features you use if you use the PS3 directly as a media server? Some codes and containers it cannot do? If so, why would you want to put media on your console directly?

Fact is you don't need a huge drive on the console itself

Exactly, storing media on your console is moronic to say the least, which the droids like to hype on, 2.5" drives cost more, there is less space than a 2.5", not all codecs play on consoles and its more of a mission to transfer the content over as well.
