I'm a bit confused about 3D gaming and 3D movies(in theater). I'm pretty sure there is a difference, from your home PC and theater.

I have a GeForce 9800 GT that supports 3D gaming, etc but no glasses that nVidia recommends I buy for $200. Like a genius I put my cool 3D glasses on from the movies and tried to play, but only thing I accomplished was playing a game with blue and red lines it in. Clearly those glasses don't work? Correct? This I'm not 100% sure about, as my knowledge on 3D is next to nothing.

If I need these special glasses, does anyone know of a South African reseller?

Thanks

b.t.w my screen is 60hz..not 120hz..does it make all of the difference?

Notice how a 3d movie looks when you don't wear the glasses and how a 3d nvidia effect looks like, 2 different systems

You need a 120hz monitor for nvidia's 3d tech to work. And you need those glases too. They are active glasses. Not passive like the movie ones.

Usually the glasses get sold in a bundle with a 120hz samsung monitor.

wip you can only use 3D Vision Discover if you dont' have a supported 120Hz display and shutter glasses. That is you'll use the anaglyph glasses. Keep in mind that enabling 3D hurts performance and is only really viable on a high end card unless you are willing ot sacrifice pixel quality to achieve a playable frame rate.
as for buying the 3D glasses, its near impossible to do so locally, your best bet is to order from an overseas site or from the NVIDIA store.

The passive 3D glasses from the movie only work if the screen has 2 separate sources projected onto each other and each source must be polarized, one horizontally and one vertically. So each eye only sees the picture from one polarization creating the 3D effect.

To get 3D at home with Nvidia's tech you need at least a 100Hz screen and expensive shutter glasses which blocks out every alternate image for each eye. So you see half the fps but in 3D.

You can also get 2 1080p projectors, 2 polarization filters, project the image onto a wall to create your own 3D home theater. This way you can use the cheap glasses from the movies. So the whole family and friends can watch things in 3D, gaming included, as opposed to just one person. 1080p projectors are expensive though.

I'm sure when I was looking at the Nvida 3d stuff, it had the cheap 3d and the 3d you need to have a special screen and glasses for?

Yes Nvidia has two options for 3D gaming at the moment. The proper 3D one called 3D Vision. For this you need the special shutter glasses and a 120Hz screen. I have not yet seen any local suppliers with the kit. I'd love to get my hands on it though.

Then there's also the normal 3D Vision Discover that's supported by many of their cards. This can be switched on in the Nvidia control panel. For this you'll need those cheap glasses with the red on the one side and blue on the other. You can play on a normal screen. I'm not sure where to get glasses like these though. One would think it would be easy. It would be possible to make your own if you feel like it.
