I'm just giving my opinion, don't see how that is trolling. Fact of the matter is that CRTs are great for SD and sport, especially if its broadcasted in 4:3. Stretching sucks. Once you move to HD a FHD display makes sense, especially with many feeds being 1080i.

Some people can't tell the difference between HDReady and FHD from 2m. Others can, many people on here seem to support that.
 
Sorry man, i'm clueless with these things.

IS 1024x768 the normal resolution for Plasma? Or ist that the resolution for a 42" Plasma?

If the 51" then has a 1,365 x 768 resolution... does this not strecth the picture?

Hope this makes sense. 90% sure i'll be getting this plasma this weekend but just want to cover all my bases.

Never watched LotR before, well only a bit of the first one, so no. But at least we know you have a picture after associating with the word. You're a troll. You're in a swamp... Now urbandictionary.com it.

No, it's not just your opinion. You come in here without reading the OP's posts and fling out FHD LCD to stroke your own ego and interests without giving a toss about the needs of the OP. Your opinion only makes sense for full HD media from within 1.5 - 2m at 40"; every time else plasma wins no question. Go back and read the OP's posts.

CRT is irrelevant, OP needs HDTV. Kindly stop being childish and misrepresenting what I say about resolution.

1080i will be mixed with 720p soon, either way the plasma will give the best picture quality from OP viewing distance.

1024*768 is a 4 by 3 resolution. Put on a 16:9 TV it results in stretched pixels. 1365x768 is a 16 by 9 resolution and you will have square pixels.

DSTV SD channels are all in 4:3 and will stretch on any HD TV in 16:9 format. DSTV HD channels are 16:9 and are the same aspect ratio as your HDTV. If you watch DSTV HD your signal is either 720p or 1080i, ie 1280x720 or 1920x1080 pixels. In either case, some information of the signal will get lost on a 1024x768 TV as it has less pixels than the input. So the picture will be compressed.

1024x768 (4:3) is the standard res for 42" plasma, yes. Hence it's specifically excellent for a mixture of SD and HD since you have the lower res which helps SD (4:3) as well as enough vertical definition (and rectangular pixels for 16:9) to display HD (16:9).

Yes, 1365/1366x768 will stretch the picture more. But rather stretch on a HDR plasma than stretch on a FHD LCD.

I really suggest re reading this thread, will paint a perfect picture. ;)
 
So basically... that resolution of the 51" is fine. :-)

Cant wait to get this tv now! How long until the weekend?

Action, trace, BBC news, sky sports, mm1/2, mstars are all in WD. And maybe others I have never tuned into.

Absolutely, but 42" will be better solely for SD, or if you need both SD and HD without compromising SD via stretch. ;)

Tim is right about the compression (which I have explained already), but it really makes little/no difference at the viewing distance you'll have.

Only about 50 hours away...

Freedom of speech can be the same as trolling when you're given too much freedom to speak.

Are you here to be free, or to give advice based on needs of the OP?

Advice would incorporate the interests of those questioning. Not simply waffling about your FHD LCD which does not suit them, and then being childish and bringing in CRT TV, which furthermore doesn't suit them.

If you want to be free, I suggest starting your own thread (or better yet a Blog Page/forum group) where you and your ilk can stroke your own egos and not have to be concerned with the needs of others. You can keep the Big Bad HD Ready Plasma away.

Yeah 43" isn't an issue in any car with foldable seats. It starts getting tight at 51"
