3d Printers South Africa

Courier dropped these off today....SBS filament, locally made by Fill-X. Bought through DaVinci Lab (very good service by the way!).

Some interesting points for me on this filament:
  • Non-hydroscopic - so doesn't absorb moisture like PLA (no more dry boxes ;) )
  • Food safe - opens up a lot of printing options
  • Can be smoothed using d-limonene (apparently for much the same result as ABS and acetone)
  • No odour when printing
  • Supposed to print at about the same temps and settings as PLA (I am currently going at 205C extruder and 60C bed - left all of my other settings as is from my PLA+).
  • Longer/more filament on a roll. I noted now when loading it on the printer that the filament does feel much softer and lighter than the eSun PLA+ I've been using, so there should be more volume for 1kg. Will see how this translates into printing and the strength of the print.
Very interested in seeing how it prints. Busy printing a small vase now in 'vase mode' using the bronze filament.

Well took your guys advice and levelled the bed a bit closer and used some hairspray and got benchy to 80%. As I was watching it came loose and messed up the print. Disappointing but at least I’m getting there.

Any idea why it came loose after almost being finished?

Bed Temp?
Nozzle Temp?
Filament?

All these things affect the adhesion of your print...

Also ensure you spray the hairspray on when the glass is cold and then heat it up, works best that way.

Went with the default PLA settings on the printer, 200C nozzle and 60C bed. Should I increase the bed temp?

Do you have hugely fluctuating temps in that room? Like a door that's opening to the outside and letting a lot of cold air in? PLA shouldn't really suffer from those kinds of fluctuations tho.

What Filament brand and type is it?

I'd recommend going slightly hotter, especially on the first layer. Try first layer at 215 and subsequent layers at 210

I mostly print with PLA+ from eSun and the range is 205-225 with a bed of 60-80

I won't go higher on the bed as 60 should be perfectly fine.

You can also try glue stick "prit". Its the only thing I use as its easy to clean with just water and works with most filaments. Hair spray tends to build up on things from over spray over time so not a fan. But ultimately getting good adhesion comes down to correct spacing of the nozzle and takes a bit of time to get your eye in as to what works. Also set your slicer to use the same first layer hight for all print hights. (0,2 works for me can even go 0,3 if your bed is not very flat)
PLA can be printed on a cold surface and 60c is fine so don't worry about that too much.

i recently got the biqu bx printer, i am very new to 3D printing and manage to figure most of the stuff so far....
in the process i ruined my magnetic bed....so i am looking at a few options....what is the difference between this:
https://www.diyelectronics.co.za/st...e-250x250mm.html?search_query=biqu&results=29 and this:

Does the base go on top of the magnetic bed ,and will "sort me out" for R80?
should i rather go to pg glass and ask them to make me a glass base?

Glass or Mirror (they are more flat than a glass window). They a bitch to setup and the learning curve is quite steep, but once you get it figured out you won't go back to a textured base...

Glass can give you a crazy nice surface finish if cleaned and prepped well, but it can also be super unforgiving!

You don't say what you ruined on the bed? You also don't say if you have auto bed leveling and what kind so make sure what you get works with that.
I just use glass on mine. 90% of the time with glue stick for adhesion on top of the glass. Work really well for me with the common plastics.

I do have autobed leveling, the magnetic based is scratched and have printing marks ,probably due to incorrect temperature settings.
so i am still not sure what is the BIQU Magnetic Base?
also my power at home just tripped...is there a way to resume a print?

where can i get a 250x250mm borosilicate glass from?
I just replaced my magnetic bed on my Ender 5 Pro with 4mm mirror cut to size, held in place with clips. Clean it between prints with isopropyl alcohol.

Combined with BL Touch/auto bed levelling it works perfectly Super, super smooth finish. Have had no adhesion issues. And the mirrors cost like R50 for 235mmx235mm. I had 2 cut, so when I'm in a hurry I can swap them and let it cool down slowly while the next print starts.

In my opinion absolutely no reason to go for anything else.

Where can I get it done?
Pg glass couldn't help me
