Could not connect in Somerset West - 24 Andries Pretorius Street, since yesterday. Goes through "dialing", "registering computer on network", then something about port not being open. Anybody with similar problems. I did not change any settings.

sounds like the phone/data card, not a network problem if the port isnt being opened. That is my personal experience anyways. Usually a phone/PC reboot fixes that for me.

Vodacom3G may be able to shed some light.

MrG,

Did yours dial and try and register computer on network before you got the port problem? Usually the PC reboot is necessary when you get the port not open message right after pressing dial.

Yes you are correct, but sometimes my phone does strange stuff. I click connect it does what you describe, Registering on Network and just gets stuck there, and after say 10 seconds says what yours siad, but thts just the software on my phone that gets confused and refuses to establish a connection to the network, that is simply fixed by rebooting my phone, not computer.

Thats why I said originally I think its your hardware not network. What are you using to connect?

I have rebooted my PC and my phone.
I have moved to different PC in Stellenbosch instead of Somerset West.
I have updated my bluetooth adapter software & drivers.
I have played around with the phone internet account settings. I can surf via my phone.
I have tried to use the phone USB and infrared modems. Then I get a error:718 every time instead of the port not open error.

It did work before and I changed nothing. I just cannot understand. It must be the phone then, but how do I get it to work?

Have you tried 082 155? It is free from your cellphone.

I tried to have the internet settings sent to my phone 6 times already. I dont receive anything. It did work before. It is also strange that the ZV10 is not listed as a supported phone; although it is a Vodafone branded phone.

From the FAQ (First Thread)

718 - PPP timeout.

This error indicates a PPP conversation was started, but was terminated because the remote server did not respond within an appropriate time. This can be caused by poor line quality or a problem with the server (ISP). This error can occur when your modem has connected to the ISP and has sent username and password, but there is no response from the server.

Sometimes, re-dialing will be successful.

This error can also occur if your ISP account has expired, or if the username or password you are using is invalid.

This error can occur if you have LCP extensions enabled in the TCP/IP Properties of the connectoid and your ISP does not support LCP extensions.

This error may also occur if you have one or more network cards in your machine, and the cards do not have TCP/IP protocol enabled, or if the TCP/IP settings are incorrect. (Go to Networking in Control Panel to examine the properties of your network adapters; or, if you are not using the network card(s), disable them in Control Panel->System->Hardware.)

Have you tried to isolate and check each link in your setup.

1) Can you connect to the network with the phone directly, i.e. not via the PC and can you then browse.

If so, the problem lies on the PC side of things. If not:

1) Do you have data enabled on the phone?
2) Do you have the right settings?
3) Specifically check the APN, should be internet (maybe you got the VLife APN)

If on the PC side:

1) Check that you've can connect to the phone via Bluetooth.
2) Check modem / IP setup as per post above.

1)Yes I can.

1)Yes
2)Yes
3)It is internet. I force it with:
at+cgdcont=1,,"internet"

1)I can. It was working.
2) I disabled network adapters. Does not work.

Spent 20min with lady on 155. Could not get it to work. Same error. 619 when using bluetooth. 718 when using infrared or USB.

Any how to master reset this phone?

I dont think its the phone... I am now convinced its some software that was loaded onto your computer... simple windows update, or driver updated. something like that

Yes, but remember that I changed computers.

Did you load the same older software or watever that worked before on the other computer? It still didnt work?

Yes, but I have not tried to uninstall some window updates. That is all I can think, because the current PC and the other PC is always updated. I will have to uninstall them 1 by 1.

Dont uninstall windows update unless you see its been installed AFTER your modem stopped working..

I dont know what this is, but check it out?

Fix Windows XP error 718 (FREE DOWN-LOAD HERE)
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
SOURCE:http://www.pitstopcomputers.net/broadband/broadband_error_718.html

Check that source first, I am not responsbile for watever that does lol, just found it on MSN Search, virus check etc first

I imagine its a fix for that error on XP, and if it is I dont see why you shouldnt already have it via Microsofts Windows Update

Error 718 PPP time out

This error should only occur due to a glitch on the ISP's end. (strange, if other people are fine) Have your ISP (internet service provider) reset your password. You can also try reconnecting, this should fix it. If it occurs regularly and there is no problem at the ISP, reinstall DUN/RAS.

718 - Remote PPP peer is not responding.

This error may occur if there is a problem at the ISP. Disconnect, then dial back in. If error 718 persists:

Check the properties of, and/or create a new Connectoid

Re-install dial-up networking (DUNS) - check Windows' networking properties.

If you still have difficulty, enable and examine the PPP Log.
