3G data tariffs - feedback from Vodacom

Alchemy: are u using a phone, pda or laptop for im? And what client, etc. I'm just curious if im is usable from a phone or not.

Kaspaas, gmail offers email with free pop3/smtp access.
 
Not bad but certainly still a rip off like every other company in South Africa... yawn... I wander when we will see some real competition.

I mean:
IBurst = R700 3GB
slowtech = R650 10GB (you wont manage that in one month on Slowtech at the moment)
V3g = R700 1GB

U do knw tht video calls are priced the same as a normal call as for video calling internationally.Vodacom needs to come in to an agreement with the international network(vodaone bell at&t etc)for a pricing on the video call.Same as international sms was 80c peak & 35c off peak this was changed because the sms(networks) internationally changed the tariff e.tc
 
I just phoned 111 and enquired about the new tariff plans.

They knew nothing......I referred them to myadsl.

Then they said that you first have to buy the R599 per month and then add the new tariff plans to that.

Is this true? Does this then imply that the minimum is 1Gig/R599 per month?
 
Still is as posted before:

Bundle 1: 20MB – R35 per month
Bundle 2: 75MB – R110 per month
Bundle 3: 150MB – R149 per month
Bundle 4: 250MB – R200 per month
Bundle 5: Multiples of 1Gig at R599 per Gig. These will be avialable in 1G, 2G, 3G, 5G and 10G.

Out-of-bundle: R2/Mb.

Bundle 5 includes a data card. For the smallers bundles, if not used with a 3G or GPRS phone as a modem, a data card can be purchased seperately. Pricing is not available yet.

For the smaller bundles (< 1Gb) would you use your phone as a modem or would you prefer a dedicated data card?

I would be looking for a seperate dedicated data card but would not want to sign a 24month contract (prepared to purchase the data card). What about a twincall SIM linked to existing contract configured with 3G, GPRS, SMS. That way the SMS's send using the datacard can be delivered on handset if not using the datacard at the time. My experience using GPRS dialup is GPRS session is not interupted for incoming calls (only if browsing on the handset - assume 3G is the same). Voice calls would be forwarded to voicemail when twincall SIM active.

Hi Vodacom3g

Welcome onboard,your presence here already make Vodacome different to other service providers and ascend customer support to a new level

Laptops probably only make up 15% of the entire PC population in SA,you should offer data enabled cellphones to surf 3g.In this way 3g can access a wider spectrum of market.

Cellphone modem is more versatile ,laptop,desktop + voice ,I think it will enjoy better success.
 
Most, if not all, 3G phones can be user to either surf directly over 3G or be used as a 3G data modem for your PDA / Laptop over Bluetooth.

Currently only the Motorola E1000 is certified but more are in the process and will be available soon.

GSM/3G PDA phones are also being developed.
 
Oh it is ,Sorry I did not notice it.

I prefer Nokia,its simple human user interface makes it a little addictive,I find other brands difficult to adapt !

I will look forward to Nokia's 3g offerings.;)
 
I've always preferred Nokia as well. Owned lots over the last 10 years. Still the easiest menu system.

They seem to have lost the way for a while on the strange form factors. Some of them just did not work (3650, etc.). Still trying to find whatever the designers smoked :) Must be good stuff.

Having said that, I found the E1000 easy to use with simple intuitive menus. Battery life sucks though :( One day at the most.

I got my E1000 on a contract upgrade, no cost, so now I use an i-mate for PDA capabilities (WEB, WAP, Mail) and the E1000 for video calls. With twin-sim it works great.

Provide the option of either a datacard or phone as modem.

Do you have to change your current sim card to use 3g? or can you just pop your current sim card in a 3g phone?
 
No need for a special SIM, you just call Customer Care and have your current (2G) SIM provisioned for 3G and it will then work in any 3G device. Your number stays the same.

Initially there was talk of a special sim but it turned out not to be needed.
 
Will the out-of-bundle price also apply to prepaid? When I called customer care they said the out-of-bundle price for prepaid after 1 Feb. will remain at R10/MByte.

What about buying bundle 1 to 5 on prepaid?
