3G/HSPA/LTE Modems

Geoff if you have 5mins sometime could you see if there is any RSSI/dBm differance between the 2 please. - only for interest sake

I have sort of same problem.
Tried a huawei E220 and just got EDGE, after numerous calls, visits and tweets to cell C they said its the modem, buy a new one... went and bought a MTN fastlink, flased with cell c software and again just picks up EDGE.

sick of trying with cell c, their twitter just ignores me, call centre transfers me back and forth and store says they don’t know... FAIL !

It's been discussed over and over and over that the E220 doesn't work - why did you waste your time on that ? BTW the Cell C compatibility list is wrong WRT the E220, it's not compatible - they change that entry every second day, who knows why ???

What model is the MTN fastlink, most of those wouldn't work either - check the compatibility list on Cell C. Why did you buy an MTN fastlink ?

Why not just get the Cell C E1752 or E1820 - they work on the other operators and are good value !

Looks as if your problems are of your own making !

You have to get a modem that supports UMTS 900Mhz - most of the older ones don't !

(BTW GSM 900MHz is not the same as UMTS 900 MHz - the first is voice, and the second is 3G data)

Your own FAIL.

You should have made sure that the E220 and MTN F@stlink was compatible with CellC's network before splashing out the money.

Hope it's a lesson well learnt.

Dongle issue

can any1 tell me y my cellc sim gets hsdpa on my k3565-z but not on my e1550, but my vodacom gets hsdpa on both?:wtf:

The e1550 only supports hsdpa on the 2100Mhz frenquency band and CellC is using UMTS 900Mhz for their 3G/hspa+ network. The k3565-z supports UMTS 900/2100.

thanks alot m8, assumed it 2b something like that. the **** thing is, that my vodafone k-3565 doesnt darn work on my 3g router(it aint the standalone huwei one).

cause the past 2 weeks my net disconnects at random intervals. when is was 100's

I've just tested a Vodafone K3765-HV (Huawei) and it works fine on Cell-C's UMTS 900 network.
It seems to be an updated version of the E160, its reported hardware version is CD25TCPV while the E160 and K3565 hardware versions are both CD25TCPU.

ZTE MF190 from Cell C

Yesterday I went to the Cell C store in Canal Walk to purchase the 24GB data bundle. To my surprise, I was issued with a ZTF MF190 modem as apposed to the Huawei. There is no mention of this modem on the Cell C website. Odd?

CellC Modem/Speedstick confusion

Today I got the 2GB/month prepaid speedstick from CellC. I'm pretty happy so far, but I have one question though:

Is the white dongle seen in the advertisements the Huawei E1752 or is it something else? I got the ZTE MF190 today, but I expected to get a Huawei. How do they compare and why do CellC have 2 different speedsticks on the 2GB/month promotion?

Ah, thanks for the link. Mine works works well so I'm not bothered to much. I heard that Huawei is good though, so I was kind of looking forward to that.

This is really weird that there is no mention of the ZTE MF190 on their website.

I can confirm that Cell-C's ZTE MF190 is not detected by the TL-MR3220_V1_110111 firmware, see here.
This modem has a different Cell-C dashboard to the one supplied with the Huawei E1820 and E1752, but it does have the option to choose '3G Only'.
It is detected in MDMA 1.0.0.31 Beta 7.

Changing from ZTE MF190 to Huawei E1752

Since I originally got the ZTE MF190 but preferred the Huawei (since the Huawei works in my router), I went back to the store where I bought the modem and asked for an exchange. I filled in a form and was told that it was no problem, but that it would take up to a week to get new stock. Hopefully the process will continue running as smoothly as it has up until now! :)

Have you managed to solve this problem?I am struggling with the same thing and can't find anything online.

Turns out I was mistaken in thinking the process would continue running smoothly - went in to Cell C Canal Walk on Saturday (they had said to come back after a week if I didn't hear otherwise) and the people I spoke to were unable to tell me what was happening with my exchange, other than that they didn't have any Huawei modems in stock and didn't know when they'd be getting any either. I went back yesterday (Tuesday -10 days after taking it back) and they then told me that they had only sent it back to the factory the previous day (i.e. Monday). Haven't heard anything further yet.

Perhaps this will help...

Two friends of mine decided to purchase the 7.2Mbps package, after I have shared my relatively positive experiences. Both received the "newer" version speedstick, where the light is a green circular setup.

One friend experienced continuous disconnects at home. Bringing it to work (where mine was peaking at +5Mbps, his and the other friend's speedstick was stuck on Edge. When one speedstick was taken to a Cell C store, the verdict was that it was faulty.

NOT SO!! We had to manually force a 3G setting and had good reception (at work). At home, the ping solution worked like a charm ito the disconnects.

THEREFOR - if you have a new version speedstick, and you experience the above, first do the manaul setting to 3G (whilst you are disconnected) and use the ping solution for the disconnects. ;)
