Hey guys,

As most of you probably know, rumours are plaguing the internet about the 2nd generation iPhone.

And now because it 'will presumably' have 3G, GPS and many improvements over the current generation iphone, all my attention and excitement is devoted to the possible announcement of the 3G iPhone at the Apple WWDC on June 9 2008.

This phone will completely blow me away if it is released with the aforementioned features because this was the big disappointment with the current iphone (lack of these features).

So guys, post your comments and theories and/or any info you would like to share. Links are always great as well.

P.S. Just pray it will make its way to South Africa sooner rather than later!!!

Cheers
Thanx

Can't wait for the new iPhone. The eagerly awaited SonyEricsson W980 will be my new 'party phone' and the iPhone can do duty during the day....

Can't think of a better combo. :)

Damn, I just saw the new HTC Touch Diamond....mmm.....maybe the iPhone will have to wait...and just maybe I might get to like the Windows Mobile OS...

im pretty excited about the new iphone... but i've set up a list of minimum requirements. if it doesnt at least have these features, i'll rather look elsewhere.
1) hsdpa (3g is getting old... i want at least 3.6mb capability)
2) 3.2mp camera (if the n95 can have a 5mp, surely 3.2 isnt too much to ask?)
3) working gps and maps (google maps sucks and that "locate me" app you could get off installer's traingulation is sometimes roughly up to 40km off!)
4) at least 2 days of heavy use on 1 charge
5) option to save contacts to sim (lack of this annoyed the hell out of me)
6) copy/cut/paste function
7) better call quality
8) louder and better quality loudspeaker (even with the volume hack i still found it to be too soft at times, and 320kb/s mp3s sounded like they were 64kb/s over the loudspeaker)

am i being unreasonable in expecting apple to give the iphone the same functionality as the n95?

Pretty much the minimum specs I want for my next phone as well. :)

I made a promise to myself never to touch a Windows Mobile OS phone ever again...

After my TyTn I made myself the exact same promise. That phone would give me gray hairs dude. Windows Mobile OS gave me such issues, it made me get a Mac :D

And now I live a stress-free life :D

On a serious note, the 1st Gen lacked MANY features that could have been released from the beginning. I really do hope that it comes with at least the majority of features that hxc87x mentioned above. What annoys me about these manufactures is that they have the technology and knowledge to develop a phone with all the latest features, but instead they hold back sell that generation, and release the following generation in a couple of months with all the extra features!! You just can't keep up. I wonder how much the 3G iPhone will be selling for when it hits our grey-market. 1st Gen started at way over the R7000 mark.

i've just been looking around the web and comparing iphone prices... you can get a 8gb iphone for around R5500-R6000 quite easily now whereas you'd have to pay around R6500 back in december and close to R7500 in september/august!
we can most probably expect the same trend to follow with the next gen iphone (unless the rumour below is true, in which case the price would probably come up a bit after a while and stay there), and current "suppliers" with old stock might start selling the 1st gen iphone for probably closer to R4500 by july.

The $200 discount will take the price of an 8GB 3G iPhone to $199, it's said, implying the new version will be a direct replacement for the two current iPhones. The 16GB 3G iPhone is said to have been priced at $499 before the subsidy.

i highly doubt that our "friend" vodacom will offer us any decent deals though so i'm most probably going to source mine from the US again.

The 3G iPhone will be launched soon...

And Vodaphone will be releasing it here around November.

Where did you get this info?

Reason I ask is because I had an accident with my Tytn I and insurance has paid me out. I've been waiting for the release of the 2nd gen iphone before buying another phone but I'm not going to wait until November.

its been confirmed that vodafone has closed a deal with apple to supply the 2nd gen iphone to certain countries, SA being one of them.
i dont know where he saw that it would be released here in november but it would make sense for it to be released here either with the official worldwide launch or in november in time for xmas. and seeing as there's been no pre-release marketing campaign, its safe to say it wont be 9 june.

I'm sure the grey-importers should have them on SA shores around July-August.....

ya, but i'll rather buy a bentley with the money they're going to ask for them!
they were asking R11000 for the 16gb just after it was released... seems its dropped quite a bit now though.

My sister went to the USA last month, and got me one for R4000.

U can also get a US mailing address, have it delivered there and they send it to u.

Yes you can.

I did that and it cost me a little over R5000 altogether, I bought it locked from an online shop, this shop is expensive now sadly.

only thing is you cant buy from apple using a SA credit card...

I'm quite sure u gys will come up with a plan and post it here.;)
I'm not getting the new one this year, unless mine breaks.

Of course..

Yeah i dont think ill get the new one just yet either...

Will wait till a bigger and better model comes out a few months later (like the 16gb model of the current iPhone) :)

Also the hacks will have taken off fully by then :)
