There's a current problem on all 3G (data and voice) services in the Pretoria area. The guys are working on it and as soon as I know more, I'll revert.

GSM/GPRS should be OK.

I would assume no 3G signal, both on voice and data, probably the dreaded 619 if on a 3G-only profile.

Voice should automatically switch to 2G, for data switch to a GPRS-only profile.

Anyone in PTA on-line to comment?

Hi ,

With 3G the dashboard just stays in acquiring status (red light on continuously), it normally ends in a 619, I haven’t left it long enough, switched to GPRS. This works but is extremely slow. Will try again later today.

It not just PTA, DBN too!

I live in Durban and the 3G Base stations are like Christmas Tree lights, On and off, I am moving around today and never had this problem also HSDPA is so so slow i can fall asleep. When i say slow i don't mean kbps (a little) But it takes very long for data to return, sometimes it never comes back at all. (maybe some poor guy down the road is getting my data :D )

V3G are KZN and Gauteng on the same switch?

Still down

I have also not been able to connect via HSDPA since about 9:30 - also Pta East. Switched over to GPRS, but it "freezes" on me every now and then. Dashboard shows seemingly short bursts of outgoing traffic, but nothing coming back. Pinging known websites results in a message that the site does not exist, which indicates that the domain name server is unreachable. Trying to disconnect and reconnect gives the dreaded 619. Rebooting seems to get things going again.

That sounds more like packet loss & latency issues [not necessarily at Vodacom's end], I suggest that you try some pings and a trace route to whatever IP host(s) you are experiencing problems with, and if you feel it is Vodacom's problem, then post the results in a new thread - this thread is about the 3G network in Pta being completely down [no signal] :).

Don't think it is a packet problem because like i said 'christmas tree lights' the 3G base station's have been coming and going all day today. As well the speed (kbps) are also up and down all the time. It also disconnects a lot like every 30 - 45 min's. Tried calling 155 no luck on hold to long.

3G is out like a light here as well.

Crawling along on GPRS, slow but seems stable.

They did explain but in a true engineering statement there were so many TLS's (three letter acronyms) in the response that I eventually just assumed something is broken and they need to fix it.

I'll try and get someone who does not speak engineering to explain what broke.

Any indication if it's up?

Nope no 3G signal where i am yet. Only GPRS. I only get a "Aquiring" message when switching to 3G profile.

It is now 07:46am Wednesday 21 june & 3G is up! I'm getting 1271Kbps download (:) , but only 57Kbps upload (:( .

Got your PM and did forward for investigation.

Everyone, remember to send me your data card number with speed test results if upload is less than 64K.

Not in Pta - but also have no 3G (at least, when i last checked last night 22h00ish, still no 3G).

Since Wednesday last week, I've had only 1 day that I've been able to connect to 3G :(.

GPRS, though available, crawls at 2 - 10 kps.

wtf how come you guy's always get problems with 3g and i never get any
guess i'm lucky

Yeah, you're lucky.

Actually I've had the 3g for going on a year now, and this is only the second time that I've had a sustained problem. I'd recommend the service to anyone, but it is very frustrating when you can't connect.
