A friend of mine moved to Pretoria, leaving her house in CT.

She asked me to set up a CCTV system which she can monitor on her phone.

Any ideas?

Tp link cameras are decent with a decent mobile app as well...
Hmmm, aren't those PC cameras though? I'm asking because TP-Link makes networking stuff.

She wants something that she can monitor remotely, day or night.

No they have a cctv range

Reolink makes the best budget CCTV cameras with AI (Person and vehicle detection).

The tapo cameras are the best, setup the indoor cheaper versions inside and the outdoor versions outside.

They run off a awesome app on android / ios.

As award winning security system installers, I would advise to be careful with wireless systems - while they have improved there is still a lot of offline status. Often if communication towers are down in your area or just intermittent internet breakage.

We have deployed Imou cameras with some success. These are the iot brand of Dahua #2 Global manufacturer, and have decent wifi range with AI. Hikvision #1 Globally can also be recommended

Many of the other rebranded cameras are simply xmeye private labels, and you can search the internet regarding the huge security vulnerabilities associated with this.

Placing any wireless device at the edge of your home network, opens pathways to your internal network - Home Network Security is now of critical importance given the entrenched nature of wifi.

In our Smart Home department, we advise to focus initially on the home network system before adding any smart devices to your network. We plan and deploy whole home networks based on wi-fi6 and now wi-fi 7 solutions that are designed with security in mind. Our objectives are to minimise the number of interfaces between your home network and the internet.

I would advise that you start there before deploying security devices to your home network. Standard home networks are not designed nor maintained securely.

Have an incoming call today. Wireless camera about 30M from the house. Connected to network via a Tenda extender and backedup with a mini router UPS which is proven to work , strong signal availability at the camera site - yet the customer reports it goes offline about 5 to 10 times a day.

Think these depend alot on the quality of the hardware. Ive got Ring cameras 25m from the router, no extenders and walls in between and they have probably gone offline once since i installed them (couple years now). Good option if you dont have access to power close to the camera or if you want something that can function during LS
