4 Mbps ADSL bundled pricing comparison

I want to pay for what I use: not decide how much I'll use per month--archaic

I do not understand the notion of buying upfront what I may or may not use.

When my car need petrol I fill up and I use the fuel until used.

I want the same feature with ADSL.

Currently using prepaid which rolls over.

Pricing on those products please?

As far as I know, doBroadband packages do not include line rental

Firstly, these prices do not include the R130 line rental, so they are misleading.

Secondly, the slim reduction in price by getting a "bundled" package from your ISP does not make up for the ball ache and hassle of having your line with your ISP.

Do yourselves a favour and keep your line with Telkom and buy your bandwidth from whoever you want. If you want a whole world of pain down the line then by all means, transfer your ADSL line to your ISP. This comes from bitter experience.

The biggest drawing card for most with Do Broadband is the included 30gig local data. I wish the article included this as it is the only reason I haven't moved yet from telkom internet. I was hoping WA, being an innovative Tier-1 ISP now, would've bolted-on that 200gig local trial account they had with their complete offerings. I would've jumped ship in a heart beat, but alas...

look after your own line

When you have you line with another ISP telkom won't support it. You can't even ask them to have a look at it and reset your line. You have to go to your ISP and they have a look at your line on your behalf.

This comparison is biased. What about the free local only data. The Telkom offering is a lot more appealing than the others if you've got a use for local only data. Until the others design a better offering than Telkom, I'm not switching.

Edit: This is soft capping all over again. These comparisons give the impression that other ISPs have competitive products, when they're missing a big part of what makes the Telkom offering so appealing. It's deja vu all over again. Until other ISPs realise they're uncompetitive, they'll see no reason to change their prices.

Off topic: does AVM know you're using their pic?

pertrol is prepaid aswell, however you would probably not lose whats left in the tank at the end of the month.

If you are on Telkom's Closer Calling Plan 5, you effectively pay R351.00 for your 4Mbps line, then you can buy your bandwidth from Afrihost - 10GB for R290.00 which would give you a total of R641.00 per month ! Off course you must first have a need for this telephone package. I think this offers the best value at the moment.

Strange how " staff member writer" does not consider this during his/her research.
I understand that the aim of the article is to cover bundle deals.... but this is not the the most economical way to get DSL at the moment as the calculation below describes.

Personally, I would never use the bundled option. Seems to me it would only serve people who have no idea how to set up a router or to use the internet. i.e. for n00bz.

Far better to have control over which ISP you can switch to at short notice.
