4 Mbps Upload Speeds

Here's one from a few seconds ago:

To the Johannesburg Server ;)

Hmm...
What's your accurate sync? 4000/512 or higher?
Is it "gross" or "net"?

For example, I have bought 16/1 mbps, but my sync is at 17690/1181. My utilized bandwidth is only 16022/1070. Speedtest.net-result is ~15100/1000.

= ca. 15% effective bandwidth loss. :(

For you it's about the same relation, IF your bought bandwidth is only "gross".

I suck at maths (more than most) so I apologize for not knowing exact figures.

I'm syncing @ 4096/512 at the moment, which is stable.

Can I suggest something to you though?

Check this speed test out: It's listed in mybb/general/speed tests/
http://netspeed.stanford.edu/

Previously, based on the statistics and thorough testing at that link, I've managed to tweak my Windows settings and hardware to perform at it's best (actually reminds me to do it again).

But it lists all the details you need and what the slow down is.

I get on average, when using multithreaded downloads about 430 kb/s off international sites. Local I get about 450 or slightly more.

That's on good days however ;)

OK - I assume that it's gross.

USA! -> sucks ;)
result: ~400 kBps download / ~105 kBps upload :D
Stanford's overseas connection is very bad.

Your download result confirms your speedtest.net result at least. :)

Cool, funny enough, over here I've also realized that connections to the U.S are slow (especially on DSL).

When I was on dialup like 9 years ago, I used to browse download.com in a flash, these days it's so irritating I'd rather not do it.

That said, I visit a site based in NY regularly and it's quite faster (still slow) than other U.S sites, very random.

Just test the stanford link, maybe it works? ;)

Does it depend on the line attenuation, if you get 512 or 640 kbps upload?

I'm in Cape Town, Bellville area specifically and I'm sync'ing at 4096/640

Maybe, but even people with low attenuation can only get 512kbps (like me). Apparently it depends on the DSLAM itself... Some people requested a person on this forum who was able to modify DSLAM profiles and bump people up to 640kbps, but even he could get some people only 512kbps. Telkom's official upgrade is to 512kbps...
