43Mbps HSPA+ milestone for Vodacom

Jannie, your employer is disingenuous, to put it mildly. If I was a contract (2.3Gb) customer I would have expected that the same announcement of the 2+2 package to announce that my monthly contract amount will be reduced to R149 (or a little more since it's 2.3 and not 2Gb). Note, those are 24 month contracts, so the customer might be stuck for some time... I can assure you if I was one of those I would have seen more of that revolting RED than I would ever be able to stomach.
Edit: Add to Vodafone's disingenuous behaviour the issue of is it a 12/24 month contract, etc.

Hee hee... love it... Jannie come answer the question above... all i see is red... very angery locked-in contract customers!

Now why would you expect that? Has a cell network ever reduced the price of a contract in the past?

One more thing Jannie, saw the branding in real life yesterday in Cape Gate at the VC store... one word... horrible!

Vodafone must have forced it on you, cause the old branding was so much better... looks like another branch of ABSA! :D

Will see if I can get it. We did show it to the journos today. Was pretty impressive. The big problem with a coverage map for 43 is that it's pretty much out of date by the hour at the rate the towers are rolling.

How do i know if the tower i am connected to is 43 capable? Coverage map another story.

They have added more data and kept the price the same, so in this case they could offer 5.2+5.2 at R389.

This all makes no sense, equaling a dick measuring contest.

How often did you attempted using this mobile connection just to find speed results like this:
Test Date: Mar 7, 2011 12:33
Connection Type: Cellular
Server: Newlands
Download: 0.02 Mbps
Upload: 0.00 Mbps
Ping: 527 ms

External IP: 41.117.116.167
Internal IP: 41.117.116.167
Latitude: -33.8880
Longitude: 18.5135

In above case its been like this for as long as 9 months, that is the amount of time I have collected daily measurements.

And just by the by this location is not some remote on the edge of the network situation. This is business and retail center hub. Something that all providers should cover adequately before they embark on the speed bragging contests.

Basics are often what is overlooked.
According to my service provider to whose attention I have brought the above dismal figures, they are aware and pending the site upgrade. This upgrade has been going on for several months now..........

So my comment to all service providers cover your basics first.

Why cant we use simple examples here. Lets say this 43.2 tower can maintain a guaranteed 50 users. Then, lets assume that that the system can distribute the capacity equally when the number of users exceed 50, then we can have 600 users simulteneously downloading @ 3.6 mbps, the speed i'm sure many users will be happy about. Pls lets indicate total users numbers a typical 43.2 tower can handle at that speed.

Open to correction, but as i remember more than 3 users per cell severely effect per user throughput. But at the end of the day the air interface has to be shared between all users of that frequency cluster.

I am not impressed with this alter ego trip that VC ans Cell C are on. Living in Boksburg, 800 m from a VC tower this is the quality VC offers me.

I guess my decision to move to ADSL was the correct route. At least I get a stable connection and steady d/l of 3.46mbs.
Maybe one day Vodacom will remember their loyal customers who helped place them in the top position, but maybe by then it will be too late.

Very true.

When companies are booming, they tend to forget about their loyal customers & just chasing after new customers.

I'm extremely old school in this regard. I do like it when the company I've been spending money with for years, gives me something back, or offer me all the cool stuff they're offering new subscribers.

Actually, yes.

Whenever new pricing is released, it typically is applied to existing contracts as well.

I recall the one price drop Vodacom did on 3G which was something like 61%, it applied to all bundles, not just new ones. You'll find it on this forum.

And it won't be the last time.

Which is why I call Vodafone disingenuous - existing customers have to pay 2.5x what new customers pay...

So why isn't it done this time? Yes, I benefited from that 61% reduction, and at the time believed my relationship with Vodacom will last longer than my marriage. (On my voice contract I am past my time with the ex, but on data it didn't make it to the 7-year itch!)

Come now Anton, you know that's stretching it.

The 2+2 pricing is a promotion and is substantially less than the normal pricing. Just like the other network's 2GB promotion is 80% less than their 2GB normal pricing.

Are they also disingenuous? Having promotions at substantially lower tariffs than their own normal pricing?

BTW, Vodacom has not announced any new pricing yet.

I don't believe that Vodacom has anything better than EDGE in Johannesburg !

At least not where I live in the middle of Johannesburg - my 7.2mbps modem is a complete waste!
