I don't care about stupidly high speed's if it cost's you a premium for amounts of data. :p

In unrelated news: "Bugatti has introduced a Veyron with a top speed of 1000 km/h. At $4 m, it's not the cheapest set of wheels money can buy, but it's faster than any manufacturer's car. In order to reach the top speed, you'll have to meet a couple of ideal conditions, 1) Have to be driving on a dead straight dead level 500 km stretch of road. 2) Be on a clear day, no rain at all & maximum 2 km/h wind in the exact direction of your destination. 3) Have no traffic & no defects on the said road. If any of these three conditions is not met, the maximum speed will be reduced to 280 km/h. It's very, very fast! Before I forget, it has 20 litre capacity fuel tank & consumption of 42 litres per 100 km. And it runs on jet fuel, @ R90 per litre. Did I mention it's really fast!
 
Decided to test CellC vs Vodacom... 4(ish)Gs vs. 3G... this from the comfort of the lounge suite...

I actually thought VC was going to give CellC a serious run for it's money... but well I got an unexpected surprice...

Vodacom 3G...Huawei E220(3.6mbps) modem... max DL speed 1.89mbps

Will see if I can get it. We did show it to the journos today. Was pretty impressive. The big problem with a coverage map for 43 is that it's pretty much out of date by the hour at the rate the towers are rolling.

Where in KZN are you? There are plenty towers around.

Here's an "imaginary" speedtest I did in Durbs December last year: http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/22123/title/42-kzn/cat/all

Not so "imaginary" after all ;)

And this is the point. While others networks hope to get a tower or two up in the next few weeks, these VC 43 towers have been mushrooming for months. But we only activated everyone's profiles this week to use it.

Why in December, Lets start a Vodacom Speed test thread, but only test that achive 14Mbps or more will be captured.

Great speed, just a pity that it takes 280ms before it starts downloading anything. That will still make it feel slow for most internet tasks, except streaming and downloading big files.
 
Hi Jannie, what are the backhaul to these towers like? Can you sustain 50+ people at that speeds per tower? Was that imaginary speed tested during peak hours at night with the tower mostly populated as in a normal real world scenario?
 
i'm confused..


al over that article i see 43Mbps....
and i also see in the graph and other places 4.3Mbps..

so which is it then?

Jannie, Speedtest has the ability to create a URL link to a test for future reference. Why do you always "Copy/Paste" an image of the tests you've done intead of providing the link to actual authentic tests ? I smell a rat......a red rat.

'Im sure they have many sites that are 42Mbps enable but no users on them , Big Red Painted RAT

With fiber you can do what speed you want, its all in the Equipment thats where the limitation lies

Actually you're arguing the point of all of this.

Upgrading to 43 is not to give one guy insane speeds but exactly the whole point of upgrading capacity so more people getting decent speeds so the price/performance ratio can be addressed.
