48÷2 (9+3) argument

We can also write this as 48÷1(9+3) as we can say a missing real number in front of the brackets implies the value of 1. So 48÷(9+3) = 48÷1(9+3)=48÷11=48/11

Now you are confusing the issue by stating that 9 + 3 = 11

Nope. Brackets always comes first.

Thats right but the brackets are 2(9+3) as there is no multiplication symbol between the bracket and the real number. Just remember brackets first implies that you first do the bracket in its entire and not in part. The 2 is part of the bracket statement.

to put it simple, it would look like this:
(48/2)*(9+3)

48÷ 2 x (9+3). Now following PEMDAS the answer is 288 .LEFT to RIGHT

You should see the other forums I'm currently reading on this issue. To top it all in SA we say BODMAS and some other countries its BIDMAS! You wanna see the flameing just on that issue

Wrong, 2(9+3) is not 2x(9+3), its (2*9+2*3)

It's a very ambiguous question. Its not clear if the question is (48/2)*(9+3) or (48/2(9+3)) as Mike Hoxbig has pointed out.

Once it gets written out properly it becomes very simple to solve the problem.
 
Mike, that sum you posted up there would be valid if it were 48/(2(9+3))......but it's not.

The question is 48/2(9+3)

48/2(9+3) = 48/2*12 = 24*12 = 288

It's the latter. You're allowed to add brackets around the entire equation, but not around individual expressions within the equation because that would change the meaning of it.
