4K streaming in testing for DStv Now

They can't even get basic streaming right on DSTV Now or Showmax... 4k would be so totally beyond them.

I agree. Buffer like a mofo.

Then I swap to netflix, youtube on my tv, 0 buffer. The quality on youtube and netflix is 1080...

Seems they are reconfiguring it, the 4k channel over the weekend ran around 16 Mbps, so you probably need a 20 Mbps line minimum to test. It was running perfect on my side. Hope the stream is up tonight, Belgium vs France match is going to be epic.

Over the weekend the test stream was doing 3.9MB/s for me and now it's doing 4.9MB/s, the max my 40Mbps line can do, but it crashes after about a minute, probably because my screen resolution is only 1440P.

DStv should focus on 1080p across the board for now. Most of the content they license isn't even available in 4K, so what good will 4K capabilities be? 1080p quality would make such a difference for people streaming sport at work.

You mean the 4K channel shows the WC games? If not, why are you hoping that the regular stream is up? It's never had issues every time I've used it this WC.

Agree.. get 1080 buffer free first. Then try 4k.

100Mbps fibre line is problematic. During popular events like when there is a big soccer and rugby match the same time buffering is the name of the game. On quiet times no buffering at all no matter what. I tried different connections and dns but still it's not working great.

For me DSTV now works fine in off peak times from about 19:00 it becomes unwatchable

If I then switch over to any other steaming serves it works again which means its not my line or ISP it's DSTV that cannot handle the load

Mines been fine, however I struggle with Twitch during peak times. I think different ISP shape/prioritise traffic differently.....?

I have 100Mbps fibre with Cool Ideas and DStv Now basically never buffers. Even during peak times. What ISP are you guys with?

Twitch gets hate all the time for the lousy servers. I used to have to use the Streamlink desktop app to stream 1080p Twitch without issues, but for some reason my speeds to US servers increased a lot a few months ago and Twitch has been fine ever since. Your easiest option is probably to just check if there are any browser extensions intended to improve Twitch performance.

edit: sorry you guys are talking about downstream. Yeah it's pretty bad whoever you're with...

Could be congestion with your ISP. I dont have an issue with DSTV Now at peak times like 7pm. Works 100% at peak. BUT, I am on an ISP with zero shaping.

Some people clearly see the same stuff I do..

Others don't..

Oh, and I use Telkom LTE at home, Netflix has no issues at 1080p all the time... Showmax and DSTV Now... constant issues...

Same here.Perfect on Youtube and Netflix. Then back to Camrip streaming with dstv now.

The problem with Twitch is the auto quality setting.
I've also always had issues with it freezing, sharp drops in quality then back to good quality and freezing again.

Select a modest quality it should stick too. (I select 480p as I find it the most stable and as long as the player names etc is perfectly visible I have no problem)
Never had any further problems.

DSTV Now on the other hand.....

20/20mb cool ideas with vuma, zero issues with dstv now, can also stream YouTube 4k 60 fps hdr with zero issues

I may not have a 4k TV, but I wish all the channels streamed at this quality. Looks amazing, and no bufffering at all right now in peak time for me.

Edit: Not joking, there is a world cup soccer stream on now, instead of a blank screen.
