4K streaming in testing for DStv Now

Streaming is quickly becoming the new way to watch live sports internationally, and South African usage of live streaming services is also increasing.

MultiChoice said it has noted a strong trend towards live streaming major sports events on its DStv Now app.

Que? Working perfectly for me. In the beginning there where growing pains sure but it's been fixed.

I agree with backstreetboy@ it works great for me too. No buffering in either showmax or dstv now, it just works. Fairly certain that its ISPs causing the issues.

Yep, the moment they have a popular sports event, like a springbok game, or world cup soccer, it automatically drops to 720p or 480p for me, and I am on a 400mbit fibre connection.

Their server's are simply are too small, or poorly configured for large events.

And even when it is working on 1080p the compression artifacts are terrible, because of the low bitrate

I find Showmax streaming perfectly fine.

Streaming DSTV on DSTV now however... horrendous.

Terrible quality, constant buffering and when watching catch up sometimes there would be a error message 'content currently not available. Refresh your browser or try again later' halfway through watching something! 4K? What a joke.

I streamed one of a worldcup games in full 1080 and the picture was pretty good using DSTV Now.
Cant test 4k though....dont have a 4k tv/monitor or a fast enough fibre connection.
dont think 10meg will cover it?

Others don't..

Oh, and I use Telkom LTE at home, Netflix has no issues at 1080p all the time... Showmax and DSTV Now... constant issues...

In the beginning it was like that but I almost never get issues with Showmax streaming these days. With that said there is still a lot of improvement needed.
