Yo guys

Awesome forum you have here

I recently upgraded to a 4mb line from a 384k. Only problem is it has been a week and my speeds are that of a healthy 512k. I say... BALLS. Anyways i gave telkom a call this morning and the "technician" said that he has set my line to 2mb and that i should check my speeds when i get home.

Now im a complete novice using the standard telkom router that i got with my 384 account, which has recently been reset.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what i should do to get the speeds i am paying for? I am running an axxess 626 account, but have checked speeds on other accounts, only to get much of the same 80kb/s compared to my mate's house 100meters down the road, who gets 400k plus

Any help would make my week. Thanks guys

das

4 Mb line should run at 420 kilobits per second under normal conditions... but Telkom are running trials for 8 Mb and so some people have seen faster speeds.

But if your line is ideal and the copper is good... you should average out on 420 kbps.

Ye seems to be the speed i should be getting. Pity i am getting 80kbps

I was getting 50/60k all weekend. Might as well downgraded to a 384 again. Only difference is the monthly subscription.

BTW daskill aren't you the same guy who plays for FiB or used to play for them, and some Team Fortress 2 ?

Yo stonecold :D

Ye, we tried my mates account and it was the same speed. As for the router i searched last night for some sort of model number, but it seems to be the basic old telkom dsl 4 port router...

Will try check my router stats tonight... by googling how to do that :|

had a similar problem, I suddenly started syncing at 640k but telkom said my line was fine, I used another router and it syncs at 4mb, could be a router problem ?

simply logon to your router using good old internet explorer / firefox / chrome or whatever you're using. Stats should be there somewhere.

Maybe the same prob Bondizzo. Will look at the router stats tonight and post a screenie

I tried login into my router using 10.0.0.2 on auto ip settings. Requests a password, at which point i tried admin admin, and administrator admin, and so on and so forth. Reset the modem and tried again with no luck.

Telkom needs a punch in the nuts.
