4Mbps Line Syncing at 3.7Mbps normal?

Hi guys,

So our 2Mbps line recently got upgraded to 4Mbps. The 4Mbps uncapped account and line are with Telkom. After noticing browsing being sluggish at times, I checked the line stats and found the line is not syncing at 4Mbps. Here is what the router reports:

I asked the telkom rep on twitter and was told the speed is normal for a 4Mbps line. Is this really normal for a 4Mbps line... I thought the sync speed should be 4096kbps or more.

I think thats pretty normal. Other factors like how far you are from the exchange etc are to be considered. 3.7 is within margin I would say.

3.7Mbps on the speedtest yes due to overheads, for the sync, no.
You have more than a high enough noise margin to accommodate 4Mbps, keep pestering until they set it to 4096.
 
It is normal , i am 300 meters from the exchange and i get 3.64 on my 4 meg line .
The noise on the UG cable is to high for faster speed .
 
Thanks for the feedback guys! I checked line stats this morning and noticed the speeds changed again... this time, I am syncing at 4095kbps.

Your snr & att figures are pretty good and you should easily get higher speeds.
 
Count your lucky stars.
My stats are excellent and I very rarely see above 3.0 Mbps

Really ? ouch, oh well hopefully something replaces it with something else, or maybe they may lower the prepaid data prices :(
 
I was afraid I'm going to be the one to break the news about the 500GB ending.

I would definitely try another ISP, Vox is my favourite.

Yes, sad about the 500GB :(
Hope if it is AH that they can fix it as i have accumulated a nest egg there :)
