5+5 LTE prepaid

Hi. I'm looking to change tariff plans and switch to Smart Wireless Broadband and use it on my phone. I have 4G in my area and where I work but I'm curious if it will switch over to 2G/3G if LTE is not available. I understand that it doesn't roam at all and I'm fine with that. If I've understood your post, correctly, once you've disabled Telkom-R it does switch over to 2G/3G right?

mine switched over to H+ while I was in the elevator just now, but at my desk and outside the office it stays on 4G+, I didn't lose connection when it was on H+

Smart broadband wireless (SBW) works on 3G, not sure whether it extends to 2G. Furthermore it only works if you are connected to Telkom Mobile towers. If you connect to Telkom-R (Vodacom) you will have to purchase an adhoc data bundle.

I would advise against using this plan on your phone since calls are charged at R2.75 per minute. Compare this to the Sim Sonke plan which charges R0.75 per minute. Secondly, once you migrate to the SBW plan it cannot be undone, i.e. you cannot migrate back to Sim Sonke etc without porting your number away from Telkom. It might be better to purchase a mifi router from Telkom for R699 which includes a mifi router, sim card and 5+5GB once off bundle.

Oh, so I can get the router without taking a contract by just using prepaid?

These month to month deals are nice. The 10+10 gb from axxess for R99 is very decent.

You can transfer up to 1GB data per day to any other Telkom simcard including prepaid simcards so you can have it in your mifi or in your fixed lte router at home and then transfer some data to your phone simcard.

Hi, are you saying that I can buy 10+10GB from Axxess for R99 and then transfer it, 1GB p/day, to a Telkom sim? Thanks.

Yes you can. 1GB per day and 10GB per month limit. So it has limits but still pretty decent

Yes, it is a once off payment for the mifi router. I suspect that they 'subsidize' the router since you cannot find mifi routers at that price from any of the online retailers.
