5770 or 4890

After reading up some more with regards to this, the 4890 would be a better choice.

The 5770 is a weak DX11 card, it will only last a few months like an 8600GT. I don't think it would be powerful enough to run the DX11 titles that will come out mid next year at max settings. Save up for a 5850 or just get a 4890

So i'd go with a 4890 now...

The 5770 is not a weak card. It has the performance of the 4870. The 8600gt got released weak.

It depends if you are gaming at 1650x1050 or greater the 4890 would probably be better, but if you game at a lower res than that then the 5770 would be great. The thought of getting the 5770 over the 4890 also crossed my mind but i game at 1080p so the 4890 is better, i am told it is because of the 256 bit bus.

ATI will probably release a 5830 next year with around 4890 performance to fill the huge gap between the 5770 and 5850. That way they'd also be able to keep the price of the 5850 higher for longer.

The 5770 is about 5%-20% slower than the 4870 depending on the game. The 4980 is about 10-20% faster than the 4870.

R1500-R1800... but come February it *should* drop to about R1300/R1200. The "crisis" that TMSC is having should be over by then. But as previously mentioned, the HD5830 should be released soon (AMD couldn't really release it because then they would be in even bigger dog doo doo with product shortages). IIRC, the HD5830 should have around 1120 shaders, It should also have a 256bit-bus
