5770 or 4890

I bought one, the 4890. It is more powerful than the 5770 and I wasn't going to be using the features of the 5770 anytime soon.

4890 PSU requirement:
500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors

one of the selling points of a 5000 series is the support for DX11, do u think thats a major draw.

also maybe we should wait a while cos ATI may release a 256bit version of the 5770 that will rival he 4890 and GTX260...

The 5770 already performs like 4870 which performs just above the 260.

I'd be inclined to take a knock on the raw fps numbers and rather go for the 5770 for dx11 tech.

DX11 cards should be a lot cheaper by mid next year. A 4890 should easily max out new games for another year. A 5770 would not last as long for raw power fps. You'd have to replace it or crossfire sooner than you would have to replace a 4890. I would rather buy a 4890 now and then sell that and get a 5850 in June next year when the 5850 is around R2000. New tech is not necessarily better, especially if you'll only play maybe one DX11 game in the next 6 months....and even then, are you someone that would notice any difference in visuals?

+1 good advice

Also not many games have fully taken advantage of DX10.1

That's because dx10 was previously vista only and people hated vista. Win7 is out now. Things will move much faster for dx11.

Rubbish, many gamers bought vista purely for dx 10 and loved vista.

DX 10 failed because it really brought nothing to the table, you honestly needed to look really hard to notice the difference between dx 9 version and dx 10 version of a game.

Dx 11 will be exactly like dx 10. Something that never really gets going.

Great way to sell new hardware and OS's though :D.

well, I noticed a number of differences... but then again, I'm obsessed with graphics :p.

However, I think DX11 will add more then you can imagine now that we have actual tessellation working and ready for game developers to make the jump. Tessellation also means that if you have a HD5970, and the game runs at 100fps, you can keep on tessellating until you reach about 40-50FPS...

The reason why there isn't much of a difference in games is because developers aren't going to waste resources on features a fraction of the target market can use. Simple as that.
