60+ 60 question???

I have a 60+60 SIM/contract. The daytime bundle is depleted, but the Nightowl still has about 30GB on it. The Nightowl still works, but it seems to be heavily throttled. I can maybe download 150MB in 5 hours, if I am lucky.

Question is, can I load some daytime data on this SIM just to get rid of the Nightowl throttling? I mean buy like R38(which I guess is the smallest data bundle) daytime data and add it to the existing SIM. The contract expires at the end of this month and I would love to use up all the data available, but at 150MB per night, I'm not going to achieve that goal.

Lastly, is this part of the service from 8ta that they would throttle the Nightowl if you deplete the daytime data bundle? It seems kind of illegal. Did I miss this bit of fine print somewhere?

TIA

+1. I didn't notice night throttling, it might be local problem. Loading new bundle can affect existing one, see cases where new bundle were consumed first. To be on the safe side, use another SIM.

Hi Lord Farquart

We do not throttle the Night Surfer at all.

You will be able to load additional bundles on your existing SIM.

Please PM us all your details (8ta number, contact number, physical address)

Thank you

Are you sure about that? Check the part where I say the daytime bundle is depleted. I will get up early and do a speedtest to confirm my speeds on day package and Night Surfer. Will forward you the number in any case. Thanks for responding.

I've also got the 60+60 gb special. My nightowl speeds are also terrible, even though I'm not even halfway with my daytime data.

Mine was fine until the daytime ran out, or lets say, since Easter weekend, when it coincidentally ran out. Before that I could download 6GB easily in 5 hours.

I noticed if you don't have any airtime on your line, speeds are throttled but once your line does have airtime. Things are smooth sailing.

Throttle I mean 2megs or so but once you load airtime your line isn't throttled anymore. Downloading at full speeds now 7megs.

***** Richard, you are on the ball here. I did the following tests yesterday. I have 2 data contracts. As stated in another thread, I inherited the 60+60 from a friend. I also have a Promo5. So what I did was swop, the SIM cards at different times. The Promo5 has daytime data available, but the 60+60 only night-time.

First speedtest at around 16:14 yesterday, Promo5 - 2.46Mbps Download. This is peak time I guess, so I am not too unhappy:

Swopped SIM cards, so now on the depleted 60+60 - 2.75Mbps. This is at 04:06 this morning:
Speedtest 2 0406.JPG
This speed is not bad either, but way faster than any night the last week. Previously I would get to Bitlord the next morning and it would still be downloading an episode of big Bang (150MB) after 5 hours. This time it downloaded 2 episodes and was busy seeding?????? Did my query fix anything?

So 20 minutes later, at 04:26, I decided to swop SIMs again, now using the Promo5 SIM to test speeds. I hit 8.3Mbps?????
Speedtest 3 0426.JPG

So it seems like Richard is right. If your daytime package gets depleted, you get throttled at almost quarter speed. From 8.4Mbps to 2.75Mbps. It seems my download speeds have improved since this thread, but it is not what it could be on Night Surfer.

Telkom Mobile has contacted me for a site visit, but I dunno if that will be between 12 and 5 in the morning.:D
