Captain Colette Weilbach said the men were arrested in a space of 11 hours on Monday.
She said two men were arrested after a high speed chase, when a Corsa bakkie neglected to stop on police orders.
The bakkie was cornered on the Old Pretoria road and police discovered that it was hijacked in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga on May 14.
"The two occupants of the vehicle, aged 24 and 26, were immediately arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle."
Their arrest led police to an address in Ekangala outside Bronkhorstspruit, east of Pretoria, where the Corsa bakkie's sound system and illegal explosive detonators were found inside a Volkswagen Microbus.
Three men were arrested for alleged possession of stolen property and possession of illegal explosives.
Two more men were arrested in the area.
A 45-year-old man was arrested for the alleged possession of unlicensed firearms and a 32-year-old man was held for alleged possession of illegal explosive detonators.
"The police are investigating the possibility that the same weapons were used during the hijacking of the Corsa bakkie on Friday night."
The men were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
She said police were investigating whether the men were also involved in other crimes.
Well done to the police! I wonder why news like this doesn't make it to this forum
