How far could one zoom in, in terms of Meters?
Lets say I have a distance of 300m that I need to focus on, could a 300mm lens do it?
Would use it at a shooting range to see where the bullet hits.

Thanks

300mm at 300m? Unless you're firing field artillery I doubt you'll see much of the target.

Best get a proper scope. I have a 500mm lens for my Sony and I might just be able to spot a bullet hole (when viewing the photo on the pc) - but through a view finder I doubt it.

Even a cheap telescope from a toy shop might be better

Great little tip for calculating field of view from millimeters: Hold a slide 300mm away from your eye. What you see is the field of view of a 300mm lens, on 35mm film.

Obviously depending on the sensor size of your camera, imagine a sensor 300mm away from your eyes and that's what it sees.

Bad news I'm afraid - this is at a distance of 87m . . . with a 600mm lens.
